So I'm having problems replacing the belt... i know there's suppose to be an inch slack at the long path. but i have a little too much slack... is there a trick to putting the belt on?

i put the belt on, tighten the tensioner bolt, turned the pully 3 teeth clockwise, and it slips... what is the problem?

apparently i'm doing something wrong... PLEASE HELP!!

What I do is make sure everything is at TDC, put the belt on int the correct order,
1.crankshaft, water pump, exhaust cam, and then intake cam.

Once the belt is on turn it counter clockwise all the way back to TDC just to make sure everything is still aligned. I then turn it again counter clockwise until there is little to no slack on all three sides of the belt then i tighten the 14mm tensioner bolt. After I do this I turn the motor over again a few times just to make sure everything is nice and tight also making sure the belt doesnt jump.

Another tip is when you have everything ready to fire up, I would disconnect the distributor so your car wont start. Crank it a few times, check your timing belt again to make sure it didnt jump a tooth or that it has no slack. Then connect the distributor and start your car.

im positive. Never turn a motor clockwise when doing timing belt replacements or valves adjustments. I think you need a Chiltons or Haynes Manual

i've done so now there's still slack in between the cams...

When you install the belt, tighten down the tensioner bolt. Then move the belt COUNTER clockwise and put all the slack exactly where the tensioner is. Loosen then tensioner bolt and push in on the tensioner some as you tighten the bolt, this will give you minimal slack once the bolt is tightened. Turn the engine 2 full revolutions counter clockwise again and check the belt, it should be good to go with almost no slack.

Turn the motor to a point where there is no slack at all on non of the sides, exhaust intake and in between the cam gears. Then tighten the 14mm tensioner bolt

is it bad if you have the belt Really Tight? like almost no slack on both sides
