wtf timing belt wont go on
I have my b16 sitting here on the floor and tensioner is loosened. How the expletive is the belt supposed to go around the cam gears. I pulled it with all my might and it is too tight to fit around.

take the tensioner off, put the timing belt on, and then install the tensioner
it should go on with ease and ease the tensioner in when the rest of the belt is put on

What belt/water pump are you using? Pull from the Pump side then slide a very little bit of the belt on the exhaust cam then on the intake. If its giving you a hell of a time then you have the wrong belt/pump combo.

Please don't tell people how to do something the wrong way.
When the tensioner bolt is loose, pull it down all the way and tighten the bolt. There should be plenty of play if you have the right belt. Then looseen the bolt, turn the crank so that the cam gears move three teeth, and then tighten the bolt to 38 ft lbs.

And as per Honda's service manuals, when you spin the belt twice (to make sure your timing is dead on), do it backwards from actual engine rotation. This sets the belt tension. If there is an argument there, talk to any Honda/Acura technician.

What manual are you looking at. You never turn the engine backwards with the timing belt on.
Go read that manual again.
Any manual says to turn the engine CCW (which is the correct way, CW would be backwards) three cam revolutions and then when getting back to TDC, turn the crank so that the cam gear/s move three teeth.
THIS WILL TENSION THE BELT.
I have found that it is not neccesary to rotate the cams three revolutions first.

Re: (statik121)
Well it doesnt look like the waterpump and timing belt assembly has ever been changed. But this belt will not go around the cam gears no matter how far i stretch it with the tensioner bolt loose.
And is there a way to take off the lower timing belt cover without taking off the crank pulley..?
