Help D16z6 Eagle/Rods bearings still tight WTF>...
my D16z6 motor w/vitara/eagle rods 75.5mm pistons.
i still have a problem with the clearances.
My mains bearings are OK about .0015 specs all straight.
i started using the ACL race STD rod bearings and got .001 w/plastigague
then i ordered ACL Race HX rod std bearings and i still got .001 w/plastigauge
WTF??? FKN Wa$te.... it says it supossed to put me like more clearance????
Does the HX bearings supposed to give me a little bit more clearance??
i got the same as before wtf?????
Can i use the HX bearings with my rods @.001 clearance.
this motor will be for turbo but driven at least couple of months before i go turbo to it.
what will happen if i use the .001 clearance????
need help ASAP...
got to get this engine running

Somethimgs not right. You shouldn't get the same measurement with those bearings. Have you measured the bearings themselves? Find a ball end micrometer and measure the actual bearing. Sounds like you got the wrong set. Last time I put together a bottom end I actually had a machine shop open up my rod end .0005 to get the clearance I wanted. They only charged me $20.

Damn that's cheap. I paid $70 a few days ago the have the big end opened up .001.
OP, I would contact a machinist who is willing to check your tolerances for you and see if anything does needs machining. I would stop buying parts that probably can't be returned and get it fixed by them.
DON'T RUN .0010 that's horribly tight even for a stock engine that won't see boost

is it .001 in within the service limit??? is .0008 tighter than .001 where would it be in between more than the spec or in between .0008 etc???
fak i will soon see a machine shop to let them check my clearances.
can they bore the rods to get .0015 at least??

Yes, they can open up your rod ends with a hone and have it sized properly. If you don't have the tools to do the measurements correctly, just take everything to them and hopefully they won't screw you over.
I had to use the HX bearings on my build also. The Eagle rods seem to come on the tight side so that people can get them honed perfectly to their specifications. This seems to be the way it is in most aftermarket/racing parts companies. Something definitely isn't right with your measurement/bearing though. It should give you .001" of extra clearance.

You wanna be towards looser not tighter on a turbo build. There arebguys that run .0020-.0025 on some of their clearances. They tend be bigger builds though.

More reason to have the machine shop check them out. If the rods are out of round then you cannot run them at any clearance. A hone could fix that. Dont worry about tang crush. We are talking at most .001". They make aftermarket rods a little tight knowing some will need to hone them out.

I'm with Muckman. Just have them honed out to the spec that you need. The looser end of stock specs should do you just fine unless you're needing something for major horsepower.
