ebay turbos have ram manis now ? help
Hey guys so I've heard about the ebay turbos being s***. Now they come with Ram Intake Manifold which are stainless steel was wondering if anybody has experience with stainless steel rim intake manifolds well they crrack? Main reason people said they were **** was because of the manifolds, and what about cast iron mani I see a few kits come with them.. im new to the turbo scene but done some research, I currently have a bone stock d16y7 any suggestions on things I could upgrade aswell ? Injectors? Etc thanks

Ram intake manifold huh?!?
You mean Ramhorn exhaust manifold. The mass produces products produce by low quality manufacturers is the metal they use and the welds that are performed. Are they good because the price is low? Hell to the no!

Re: ebay turbos have ram manis now ? help
The manifolds have nothing to do with the turbos being a piece of ****.... They are both pieces of ****, even the new china manifolds.
Some of the higher end chinese copy turbos aren't that bd but they still don't use the same quality materials, forging/machining, quality control, and balancing abilities that legitimate turbo companies like Garrett, Turbonetics, Master Power (the real ones from Brazil), Comp Turbo, STC, and others use
so not only do you have to worry about the turbo failing but you also have to worry about the manifold cracking (even with their new ones)
I've seen china turbos fail on first startup at idle, seen the poorly cast compressor housing split in half under high boost, etc. But some seem to be somewhat OK, running for long periods of time without issue. Having a china turbo not break is very very very rare
The manifolds have been cracking since they built the first one. I've seen the wastegate flange break, taking the wastegate with it and normally it falls out of the engine bay and gets beaten to death by asphalt... or the welds around the head flange/runners will fail, etc
I've seen the welds around the turbine inlet flange on the manifold crack and even break in half, taking the turbo with it, which normally breaks the turbo and there's a high chance the turbo will be spit out onto the road, having dropped off completely
To the OP
it's not worth the gamble.... if you can't afford to do it right the first time then save up until you can... buy buying quality parts, new or used

Oh goodness, another PSI guy.
Don't buy the kit and not use the manifold or turbo. That's just stupid and a waste.
Get a turbo manifold from a good company. Log styles are $120 from Go-Autoworks, cheaper used.
Used turbo $200-400 depends on the condition.
Intercooler and piping, go ebay $100
Used wastegate, $150 for a tial or so. Depends on the size
BOV, get whatever ya like. I got a greddy for $50 on here
oil kit, seen them as low as $50 around here.
DSM 440 injectors, $80 or find them at the junkyard
Chip your ECU or get a chipped one, prices vary
Fuel pump, walbro used around $80
Recommend wideband, oil pressure, and boost gauge $200~
Downpipe $100 from a shop, depends on your pipe size.
Probably a few other things I missed that you can find second hand or make yourself, like a catch can. Call it $1500 before you get it tuned. eBay kits go for $700~1500 and you won't get anywhere near as much or the quality of building your own kit.

Save yourself the headache and buy a quality manifold the first time. If you cant afford new, check the www.hondamarketplace.com for quality used parts.

The material is too thin...you could be the best welder in the world, but you still can't make a reliable manifold out of tinfoil

Re: ebay turbos have ram manis now ? help
I just picked up a ramhorn from Godspeed, don't know gauge off hand but the steel was at least 1/8th inch thick. Welds were nice and runners were ground smooth, collector was smooth and sharp. Steel appears to be good quality, no corrosion despite being very hot in rain. (running without hood, been raining last several days.)
Just my .02. Probably go with better brand if you can afford. I think my mani goes for 80-120 on ebay.

Okay. You have a bone stock Y7. The d-series, in stock form, doesn't push 200 very often. From what i know the Y7/8 have oiling issues too. I would not have gone with a $100 mini-ram from eBay when you can get a brand new, name brand, log manifold for $120 from someone like Go-autoworks. Or you can get one used for much less than that.
