What are the dimentions of the space that you have to work with?

Length X Width X Height = _______ / 1728 = Enclosure size in ft^3

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by t0p_sh0tta &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">What are the dimentions of the space that you have to work with?

At least when the length, width & height are measured in inches.

To give you a general idea, 1 cubic foot is a box that measures 12" x 12" x 12" =1728 in^3 or 1.0 cu ft (or ft^3)
Or 1.5 cu ft is 18" x 12" x 12"
& 2.0 cu ft is 24" x 12" x 12"

You can manipulate each of the dimensions as required to meet your number:
If you know 2 dimensions, you can work out the other
Example:
You want 2.0 cu ft and you have 20" wide & 8" deep to work with in your desired space: you need to know how high ("h") the box will be for 2.0 cu ft.

The thing to remember however is that the volume is that of the inside dimensions of the box, so you need to account for double the thickness of your material in the dimensions.
i.e if using 3/4" MDF, subtract 1.5" from each length as your raw side dimensions.

So that now leaves 18.5" (20"-1.5") x 6.5" (8"-1.5") as your inside dimensions

2.0 cu ft = 1728 x 2.0 = 3456

3456 = 18.5 x 6.5 x "h"

=&gt; h = 3456/ (18.5 x6.5)

=&gt; h = 3456/120.25

=&gt; h = 28.74 " ~= 28-3/4" + 1.5" = 30-1/4"

So a box approx. 30" x 20" x 8" (external dimensions) made of 3/4" MDF would net ~ 2.0cu ft internal volume.

The only other spoiler here is that is the <U>gross</U> volume - you need to subtract the displacement of the speaker(s) to give you net (or vice-versa, add it to the 2.0 before you do the calculation to find your actual dimensions)
