Found metal pieces in the oil pan
So I was changing the oil pan gasket on a B16A and found these two metal pieces in my oil pan. The car was running well before this. I put it back together and drove it home and parked it. This morning I took the head apart to check the LMA thinking they looked like part of that but everything looks ok. Does anybody have any idea where these may have come from? I put a penny in the picture for a size reference.
Thank you,
Thank you,

the closest thing they look like to me is the "key" for the crank pully but that wouldn't make any sense. are they "broken" or flat end and smooth

Both pieces have a broken end on them, but the broken ends don't seem to fit together. They're round, not square like the keyway.

Re: Found metal pieces in the oil pan
is it possable that someone has tried to destroy your engine?? ther is only 1 thing even close to those pieces and that the pin that holds the key of the distributor. other than that i canot think a single item in the engine that has pin/s like that

Re: Found metal pieces in the oil pan
They are metal pieces, the distributor keys are more square. I thought of those as well because I had a distributor lock up, but then realized that was the old engine. Here are some more pics, I'm lost on this one, the car still runs fine and doesn't make any strange noises or anything.

I'll have to check and see if I still have the distributor that locked up with this motor and see if it is the pin out of that. Thanks!

That or the distributor key pin. But IIRC, those things are fairly tight when theyre installed. Never seen one back out before, but theres a first time for everything...
I know Its been asked already, but is it MAGNETIC??

Re: Found metal pieces in the oil pan
They are not magnetic. I was the last person to lock the cams when I did the timing belt and nothing broke, bent but not broke.
I'm trying to decided whether to tear the motor all the way down and inspect it, or put the head back together and drive it. I have a B18 block to do an ls/vtec, but right now is a really bad time money wise.

Re: Found metal pieces in the oil pan
are they both flat on one end and broken on the other?
maybe someone tried to use these to hold cams in place to loosen the crank bolt
if they are from cam holders you will see some deformity on cam rail holes since aluminum is softer.
just inspect the head and put it back together if it ran fine thenprobably nothing else there.
they look like a butt end of a drill bit
