Tap dseries oil pan on shallow end?
Just wondering something
Could you tap a oil pan on the shallow end and not get any negative results?
I borrowed this pic from another thread on h-t, his was the only pic i could find that would help, the planned tap is going to go between the 2 far left bolts. I know your "suposed" to tap in the deeper end, but just wondering if anything would be wrong with tapping in the place were asking about? Its still above the oil line so im guessing everything would go ok..
thanks.

try to get as high up as u can...the edelbrock kit instructions told me to tap under the third oilpan bolt from the driver's side and 1.5" below the very top of the pan

I was thinking about it, but ended up tapping about the same spot as your picture. My drain was directly over the shallow part, but the fitting was pretty big in diameter and I didn't feel comfortable tapping into such a small area, so I just moved it over a few inches to the big part. Just make sure there's no obstruction behind it, like the pickup or baffles.

i dont have a D-series, but i tapped in the shallow area of the oil pan. highest area on the oil pan, weather it be on the deep side or shallow side, as long as it's high enough. i did mine on the shallow side cause that was the straightest route down.
