I mean the SAE numbers. Tuners sometimes try to cheat and present dyno numbers in STD form which usually about 5 whp higher to make the customer feel better. SAE is the actual whp. Sorry to burst your bubble. </TD></TR></TABLE>

the top of the graph says "STD smoothing 5" which is not SAE

Nice build Canuck. How long did you have to wait at Neetronic's in order to get your car tuned?

Your numbers are very similair to mine. 201 whp & 139 lb-ft. (B18c1 build)

No worries... I'll see if I can get the corrected numbers.

STD is a correction factor, though. It just tends to be a little more generous than the SAE CF is.

FWIW, there's absolutely no reason you should be dropping your A/F down to almost ~12.0 above 8K. Alot of your racing (no matter what type) will be done by shifting at your highest points, and you're wasting good power up there by dumping fuel into the mix.

Nice build, quality parts. Despite what others may say, your torque curve looks good

AFRs should not fluctuate that much. it's not going to make that much difference in power, but if AFRs are off like that, who knows what the timing looks like.

sounds like a decent build up.

paul at neetronics is very good

that is why he tuned the vibrant race car which held the record for a lil bit.

i heard he tunes part throttle really well and u will get gasmileage for sure out of the motor.

yah i do know he charges lots of coin. u should look into talking to allmotormark he will tune that motor and it know there is a lot more in it.

150 is a good price tho.

how many hours ?
did u go to redline to get it tuned?

if gord built ur motor he is the best we have here

Ny, is that you? anyway, this is a true st8ment. i mean, that Vibrant CRX made what 300whp a few years back? nuff people just follow the trend of bashing Paul and his facilities. but, when he tuned my car and my boys on his in house dyno, we then went to Protechs dynojet and guess what? the tune was 13.2 across the baord and we extracted 2-3whp after a few hours of tuning. trust me, he knows his ****. ask Gord who he reccomends? he'll tell you to go check Neetronics. but, you know...Technotik is better than Paul, i mean a few years of tuning out weighs the over a decade of tuning modified cars... from Honda to whatever.

I am not saying anything about Paul's tuning skills, but from first hand experience I can say with confidence that he cannot fully tune a car with HIS current facilities.

For starters he didn't even touch my timing maps. Why… because on his own admission his dyno cannot measure torque consistently enough to dial in timing.

What he did for me was get the A/F maps adjusted so that they were flat. He did nothing else. He did not know if his target A/Fs were where the car made peak torque. He simply went on experience. According to my own tuning his experience was costing me about 6WHP across the board

Funny enough my cruising maps were very rich (13-13.5 A/F). I had to fix this myself when I did my last tune.

I paid for 45 minutes of down time because the dyno was not working properly, I paid for 45 minutes of down time because Paul's laptop could not stay connected to my S300 (we finally used mine with out problems). I paid for 30 minutes of tuning time while he made two attempts to do a "dyno" pull and provide me with some meaningful numbers. The first result failed to capture the numbers, the second produced 180ish WHP which he then had to explain was 20% low because he did the pull in 4th gear. In total I paid about $350 more then I should have.

Paul may be a great tuner... but he is doing his work blind because his equipment sucks, as it did 8 years ago when I first met him. I don’t like to criticize people I respect but in this case I have to say something…

Got a ride in this car for a session at the ITR Expo at VIR Full course. Power felt nice from the passenger seat.

I'll be going with another tuner in Toronto, Yoshio at Japanese Automotive. He uses a Dynapack. Probably take it to Teknotic to see what it pulls on a Dynojet.

LOL first you are supposed to do Horsepower runs in 4th , secondly you seem pretty knowledgable why didn't you tune it yourself?....seems like alot of money wasted on a half assed tune, when he only tuned some of it right and only touched half of the maps and then used your equipment. would have been cheaper to buy a wideband and do it.
not trying to come off as a dick or anything was just wondering why not do it yourself?

I have no problems with Paul doing the pull in 4th… but he admitted to me that his dyno is NOT calibrated properly when he does 4th gear pulls. What I found was that his dyno was not very well calibrated at all. That in itself is no biggie but the fact is his dyno can’t produce repeatable results.

I did do a lot of the tuning myself (I do have a PLX-R500 WB O2 sensor), but as this is my first big build and I have never attempted to tune anything like this before I wanted to take my setup to someone who could polish things up and catch any errors I may have made. I thought Paul would be perfect for that but at the end of the day I was very disappointed. On the other hand I felt more confident that my own tuning was pretty good.

Chris,

Glad you got a chance to take a ride in the car this year. I still can’t believe you closed your eyes while I was going 115+ MPH through the esses.
