Dyno results are in... (as posted in the ITR forum)

So now I am officially a member of the 200+ WHP club, but I just squeaked in there. Finally took my car to a dyno and got the WOT stuff sorted out. Some may be disappointed with my results but I am not. My spoon header, stock intake manifold and throttle body are the likely reasons I’m not sitting at 210+ right now. Knowing these limitations I’m pretty pleased to see numbers around 200. My old engine with the same external bolt-ons made 178.

An SMSP header is definitely on my short shopping list as well as a couple more goodies; however, I’ll have to wait until all the Expo bills are paid before I dig into the wallet again.

Here is the graph:

- Skunk2 Pro cam gears
- Ferrea +1mm intake valves
- Ferrea exhaust valves
- Ferrea valve springs
- Ferrea Ti retainers
- Ferrea Seat locators

- ARP head studs

Bottome end:

- Carrillo Rods
- Greddy timing belt (or PE)
- new oil pump, water pump etc...
- ATI damper

Other:
- RC 440 injectors
- Honda Bearings
- Honda Valve seals
- Honda head gasket

Parts already on the car:
- Mugen intake
- Mugen twin loop
- High-flow cat
- Spoon header
- Hondata S300
- PLX R-500

And a few pics (not taken by me) from my shake down lapping event I did a couple weeks ago… the car is quick!

Nice build. I bet that is a fun car at the track, plenty of room to pick gears for corners.

Jay_Sensing 06-04-2007 04:31 PM

Very nice power band man, a good header will pick that number up a bit as well I think.

Nice power, but that A/F definitely needs to be clean-up. I have limited experience but the best running cars seem to have very straight A/Fs.

What was the car tuned with? I would go back and get that fixed.

isnt that twin loop muffler a good bit restrictive as well?

go to a good flowing magnaflow or something similar, a AEM 3inch ITR CAI, a smsp header and I guarantee more then 210whp

Re: Dyno results are in... (VTEC2841)

You can roll a golf ball right thru a twin loop muffler, how is that restrictive?

The A/F is actually fairly flat. It isn't perfect but remember that most plots that you will see have a very coarse scale (i.e. A/F = 5 - 20). This tends to flatten out the plot but doesn't show you much detail. I chose to display the A/F plot with A/F = 12-14 which shows allot more detail. My A/F plot is 13.3 +/- 0.15 which is pretty flat. Above 8000 I decided to allow the car to richen up a bit to keep things safe. The engine wasn’t going to make more power up there anyway.

why the 1+mm oversized valves on that set-up? nice #'s btw.

u need a better tuner u should have gone to allmotormark , ralph or paul from neetronics or even dare i say it split fire

Cpt Ben 06-04-2007 10:16 PM

Nice setup. Mine should be very similar once done. Good to see a goal for rough power i should be shooting for.

the restrictive section is the mugen exhaust is the 54mm piping before the resonator, assuming he's using the mugen b pipe

I'm running the Mugen B pipe but I had that section of pipe replaced. I will be replacing the entire B pipe when my header upgrade is done.

Funny you say that. After giving Paul at neetronics $700 to tune my car I have to say that it was the single biggest mistake I made with my build. Paul is a good guy but his equipment does not allow him to tune very well.

Paul set my car to run 12.8-13.5 at cruising speeds. My rear bumper was getting nice and black. I'm now running in the 14.7-15.0 range at cruise and I suspect my bumper issues will be gone (no I don't burn oil).

Paul was not able to touch my timing maps because his setup is not precise enough to make those kinds of adjustments.

Paul was not able to provide me with meaningful dyno plot.

What Nick (from Teknotik) and I did yesterday was extract as much power as this setup could deliver (as is). We worked with more fuel, more timing, less timing and what you see here is where it made the best power and the flattest torque curve. I picked up about 6WHP across the board from where Paul had set things.

Oh yeah and the kicker is yesterday only cost me $150.

Did the over sized intake valves limit you when dialing in the cams? Where did you end up having them set at?

Yes somewhat... but I was able to degree them to Skunk2s recomended specs without V-V or V-P issues. I do not plan on moving the cams.

its Gord Bush. good numbers, but, P1 drop off fast up top. they did the same in my old set up.

What were the SAE corrected numbers?

I believe these are the corrected numbers.

hrmm...wonder why my s2s2's peak higher then the pro1's..lol

I mean the SAE numbers. Tuners sometimes try to cheat and present dyno numbers in STD form which usually about 5 whp higher to make the customer feel better. SAE is the actual whp. Sorry to burst your bubble. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Well... what are your supporting mods? The Spoon header was never designed for top end power, but for a strong mid range. Considering this I'm not disappointed at all with my results. I expected this, sure more would be better but I'm a realist.

I'm confident that when the SMSP exhaust gets installed my peak will move well past 8000RPM, and likely net me another 10+WHP.

did you notice any difference when you replaced the piping on your mugen b pipe? i've been meaning to do that as well
