Default Leaking tranny fluid from axle, set ring or oil seal?

i recently installed new axles less than 2000 miles ago and noticed a little bit of oil on the ground. I assumed that it was the crush washer because i had reused the drain plug washer about 3 times only because I had none at the time. I then went to the track, had a spun rod bearing and had the engine mildly rebuilt wit ctr pistons, and eagle crank. Obviously the engine had to be dropped and the axles removed. Now after i got the car back the tranny felt really notchy and tranny fluid leaking was more evident. i added more fluid, waiting for some gm synchromesh, which i then put in 2 weeks ago along with a new crush washer. Still leaking.. so the other day i tightened the drain plug even tighter, and the fill plug as well, went for a drive and jacked up the car, and there it was even more oil after i had wiped it down. Now looking more closely, I noticed the oil was leaking from the inboard joint of the axle (passenger side). I tried hamering the axle deeper into the tranny but it was already all the way in, it would not budge, I havent tried pulling it out and putting it back in because its finals week and don't have much time for workin gon my car. Also, it seems like the oil seal protrudes a bit from the housing and is hindering the axle from going in all the way, although i don't remember what it looked like before i installed the axles. The axles were bought from autozone, and I noticed the set ring was alot smaller than the groove in diameter and circumference.

Now my question is, would replacing the set ring solve my problem or is the oil seal the problem? When installing the axles myself I'm pretty sure I didnt' puncture the oil seal at all and the only other time the axle was removed was for the rebuild. Also, during high rpm shifts, the shifter does not want to disengage, it almost feels like the shifter is stuck, but a split second later it does disengange. Would an axle popping out because of a defective set ring cause this sort of behavior?

the inside of your axle seal has a small "spring like" device that keeps it tight to the axle...it could be that this small "ring" has come out with the work that you have done recently. the seal is only about 15 bucks at your local dealer, and takes just a few minutes to replace...I would try that, besides it wont hurt to have a new one.

are you referring to the set ring on the end of the spline of the inboard joint?
