see, the problem is, both make boost, yes, but modern turbocharges w/ ball bearing center sections are more effecient by several per cent over roots superchargers, as much as 8-10%, and still a few per cent more efficient than centrifugal s/c's. so, if you're into big power, go w/ a properly sized turbo for your power goals. a few per cent greater charging efficiency can turn into a 10 times as much hp.

There are lots of reasons why it isnt really a good idea. One being that the supercharger would cause all sorts of turbulence when the turbo is spooled, almost certianly hurting peak power production.

Two is it would limit optimum manifold design due to said turbulence.

Three, is there really a need for a supercharger to assist with throttle response for todays turbochargers? The answer is no, as a properly sized turbo will offer almost instantaneous throttle response and not choke on the top end.

Four, with our FWD cars, is a bit of lag really a bad thing? No.

Five, if maximum power production is your thing, the turbocharger is not the limiting factor in your setup. There isnt a need to run a supercharger AND a turbocharger to create this power. In fact, even if one could design this setup to make some ridiculous amount of power, its nothing the right size turbo couldnt also accomplish, probably better, on the same motor.

We can go on and on and on. As the guy above clarified, I would just like to see you guys start giving REASONS for why something is good or bad rather than just regurgitate when you read someone else on honda-tech 6 months ago say it was a bad idea. If you use your head and think about it for a bit, you can come up with many reasons as to why its a bad idea. Whether theyre right or wrong, at least state them so you have a discussion rather than a general blatant answer.

Most of these setups that are discussed involve the supercharger assisting in spooling a large turbo. As I said, the need for this really doesnt exist, either for spooltime or power production. On the top end, that roots charger bolted to that manifold would end up disrupting the flow of all that air that huge turbo is now sending into the manifold. There really is no benefit to such a setup.</TD></TR></TABLE>

theres actually semi trucks that is supercharged and turbo charged

i kno im way off on the car thing but im just informing people its out there and it works just fine

semis don't count because those are diesel, and diesels run by detonation every cycle. notice how they run 30-40psi on 16:1 compression. then they rev really low with huge, strong internals, so the detonation doesn't destroy the engine. just a side note.

Theres also a twincharged MR2 available, FYI.

The benefits to a roots blower is throttle response.

The benefits to a turbocharger are efficiency and power production.

When you put them both together, the former negates the benefits of the latter. Theres the answer.

i have no idea what the hell u just said cause it didnt make any sense....lol.

This thread is lame. it should be locked.

Compressing air 2 times before it reaches the cylinders is going to get you no where. End of Story. Done.

I dont see anything wrong with a supercharged honda. I had a built supercharged crx with a built tranny and I walked on everything. I beat turboed tegs and civics all the time. It just depends on your preference, how you build it and ofcourse the driver. IMO, superchargers are alot less maitenance and more dependable, even though I love the turbo I currently have on my dc.
