oil change...
on c-speedracing.com section on oil changes they say to fill the oil filer half-way w/oil...is that really necessary? I never do that when I change my oil.

Someone let me know if this is really important or not and why they do it...

Re: oil change... (xintegra01)
na you shouldn't have to do that. I work at a quick lub and we only prefill truck filters that take more than 1/4 of a quart. Our little honda filters are filled quite quickly by the pump. Best thing to do is unplug your distibutor or external coil wire if you have one and turn it a couple times till you get oil pressure........ but make sure to put the oil on the seal and to not overtighten the filter..... I prefer the synthetic variety......

I feel differently... first cuz i use the following two things which makes it a million times easier & cleaner to do an oil change...
Fram Sure Drain
Craftman Adjustable Oil Filter tool
And secondly... i think for all owners Peace of Mind is very important... and i find a great deal of comfort in knowing that i did my own work and thus kno the job as simple as it may be was not fucked up.
As for whether or not u need to fill the oil filter... i never do.. don't think u need to... but put some oil on the rubber oil filter gasket before u install it.

Re: oil change... (TerribleOne)
i learned to always fill the filter with some oil
and i always do that
not doing it will leave ur motor with oil starvation...for a second... i don't want any oil starvation

Re: oil change... (Dan GSR)
No really necessary but does reduce the amount of time for the oil pressure to build up. If you do an oil change with your engine warm than some oil will be still coating the valve train so there is little risk of extra wear. Just don't rev the engine while the oil pressure is building.

There's your answer. I do it b/c it's cheap insurance either way.
