GSR's with test pipe help!
I need some help! Would the check engine light come on with a test pipe? even if it has bung for the O2 sensor? how do you turn it off?
If heard of people say that there is NO gains with a test pipe?? Is that true? If not, what kinda of HP gains am I looking to get? Thanks

Test pipe does not produce any significant gains for a car with mild bolt-ons. THe light that comes on is leeting you know that you have increased your level of pollution by about 1000 times.

An SUV can pollute up to (rough estimate) 5 times more than a car with a cat. That still means you without cat = 200 SUVs.

that's the whole reason I started this topic!!! I can NOT get a straight answer. I wish someone would post a dyno!!!!! somepeople say it makes NO HP, other people say it makes 8-10 HP. I'd be happy with 5-6 HP!!

The cat is a restrictive area of your exhaust. Openning this up should allow more exhaust flow, increase hp and keep your engine cooler a little bit in the process. You will get greater gain if your vechicle if force induced, taking into account that the rest of your exhaust is not restrictive.

Next tuesday I am having a Mandrel bent exhaust using a resonator and a Magnaflow muffler. The shop want's to build me a test pipe for TRACK use only.
Since the ECU JUN is building for my car will take away the OBD 2 signals I figure it will be ok, but for now is there anyway to keep the dreaded CEL away with my current OBD 2 setup.

Re: GSR's with test pipe help! (1fastGSR)
I had a 99 Expedition with the 5.4L it got around 15 mpg around town and 18 on the highway (2WD). It was classified as a LEV and had 4 cats, 2 for each bank. My wife drives a 98 Volvo S70 GLT that gets only 21 mpg in town and about 28 mph on the highway. Well the Volvo's emission numbers were about 3 times that of my Expedition but was only getting (21/15) 40% better fuel mileage around town which was about 80% of its duty. So, even though my SUV was getting worse mileage is was polluting less than the Volvo.

Why dont you take that money and go buy a BBK or JG throttle body and intake manifold.......Test pipes are a waste of money on Mild motor setups. You will get way more gain out of those 2 bolt ons.

It's funny all these people that bash test pipes when they don't even have them. Have u guys ever actually looked inside your cats? There's so much wire in there it's a joke. When I took my Cat off and replaced it with a 2.5" testpipe I wasn't turbocharged, but I still felt some power gain. Not anything like 10hp, maybe 4 if I was lucky. But after the turbo....damn. If your obd1 just spend 50 on a damn testpipe, your not gonna be dissapointed. And make sure to hold onto your cat..for when u have to pass emissions.
