GSR safe timing setting?
Alright guys, I've just changed my dizzy and I want to make sure my timing is set correctly.
I have some people say 18 BTDC is safe and some people say stay at 16 BTDC. for my GSR stock motor, what would you suggest?

no, 18 is 2 deg. advanced (spark fires 2 deg. earlier in the crank rotation compared to 16 deg). On the crank pulley there are 3 red marks. The center red mark indicates 16 deg., and the one furthest from the white TDC mark is 18, and the mark closest to TDC is 14.
Factory specs state 16 +/- 2 deg., so 18 is fine. Lots of people run 18 to get a little extra pep. I've run mine at 18 as long as I've owned my car, over 150K miles now.
But on 18 you'll most definitely need premium gas, which you should be using anyway with a GS-R.

Would it be a noticeable difference? I have 177k on my GSR and I'm not looking to break it.

I set mine to 18 when I first got the car, after changing the timing belt at 90K miles. Now at 242K miles it still runs perfect on 18.
But I also run injector/fuel system cleaner every oil change and open it up in VTEC regularly to keep carbon buildup to a minimum. You can try 18, but if it pings then the knock sensor will probably retard it back some. Try 18, and if your gas mileage worsens (using premium fuel of course) then put it back to 16.
