When you match the 2 up, are their housings and mounting points exactly the same? Maybe you got a slightly different alternator.

If you look the alt. lower mounting bracket, [one side] has a "sleeve" inserted into the hole, it needs to be "pushed" out so the sleeve is flush with the inside of the bracket, it will self adjust as you tighten up the bolt. 94

The bottom bracket has a bushing on one side that the bolt passes through, when the bolt/nut are tightened down the bushing is pressed against the alternator to hold it tight. Before you put in a new alternator you need to move that bushing outwards a little to make room for the new alternator. You can do this by using a socket that fits over the bushing and a c-clamp to squeeze the bushing over into the socket. If you cant do that you could alternatively just use some sort of hammer to tap it in the direction you need it to go.

So there is infact a sleeve on the bracket however its stuck in the bracket and not moving im keeping it doused with penetrating oil. ill let you all know what happens from here. I feel retarded but the way i pulled the alternator out i really couldn't see the lower bracket.
Pushed the sleeve back with a vise so problem solved thankyou guys!
