Default 96-00 rear speakers, THE EASY WAY

i found this at work today, havent seen it posted or tried:

"to remove the speakers you enter in the trunk, cut the 4 white clips from below that hold the speaker. then push the speaker up through the hole and rotate to allow the factory speaker to drop out of the opening. you can then bottom mount the new speakers using speed clips and screws."

so i tried it on a 98 civic that we had in the shop cause i really didnt want to remove everything the "right" way and it worked pretty well. i used pliers to twist and pry the white clpis out. and the thing about allowing the speaker to "drop" out isnt quite accurate, it took a little motivation to get it out. but overall it worked like a charm and was way easier than removing the rear deck. wish i had known years ago.......

What do the white clips do? Are they there to hold the speaker in place? If so, now that you've broken them off, what keeps the speakers from rattling all over?

yup, they hold the factory speaker there.
to hold the new speakers, use speed clips and mount the speaker to the bottom of the deck.

wow.. finally a place I can post in...

here's how you take out your speakers.. the easy way... becuz you'll have to bend all over the place to get to 2 of the 8 screws

fold your seats down, then fold down the 2 side pieces.. on the rear deck, the little lip that hangs down.. pull that out a bit.. gently lift up a bit and slide your hands towards the back.. gently lift up.. slide the seatbelts out of the rear deck, then put your hands back under, and lift up... you might have to use some force

personally, I hate rear speakers... I use 100rms to each side up front and that's fine with me

this way does not require you to take the rear deck out or remove the side panels, everything was done from inside the trunk, i thought it was soooo much easier this way. i work as an installer and after taking rear decks out for years, i found this way to be way easier. just my opinion and trying to give others another option.

Word....they suck for imaging....I run 150 rms per side on my CDT HDs. Probably more since JL under rates their smaller amps a bit.

I've been installing for a few years too.. but the thing is.. the speakers are screwed down from the top of the deck.. not the bottom..

They're screwed into the white clips though, so cutting them allows you to not have to unsrew them from the top. Then bottom mounting instead of top mounting lets you screw in from the bottom rather than the top. It all made good sense to me

speedclips arent exactly hard to find, any stereo shop should be willing to give you 8 if you ask nice enough, and i assume you should be able to buy them at home depot or autozone but i honestly have not looked cause i get them from work

this is a great post and good method. I got some infinity speakers installed in no time! And autozone has these "speed clips". They have a spinning rack of nuts and bolts and they are in an orange package.
