I thought the ITR was a perfectly balanced machine from the factory and if you alter it's weight you would be hurting the performance of the car? It's setup and tuned for what it is now.

Of course for 1/4 this does not matter, but if you plan to track the car a significant weight reduction would probably hurt you. Or if you plan on getting some sick suspension setup then gut the car as much as possible and have the car weighed and then adjust the suspension accordingly.

I'm not bashing you or being a dick, just wanted to give my opinion and what I have already read up on the ITR. Good luck and enjoy the R.

lighter car = better braking, better acceleration, better handling...what is a negative? you'll of course loose some necessities...but thats the cost of performance.

i don't think anyone has to be in some series, or follow some rule set just to lighten up their car.
the car gets more fun to drive as it gets lighter, but you have to be careful.

ive done a lot to drop the weight on my itr.
i still have to remove the power steering junk.
parasitic drag and dead weight.

gotta keep beating/stay competitve with those pesky EGgs!

look at the impact beam compared to the USDM...also the bumper support is a bout 2"x2" of hollow aluminum

Toss the cast iron header and factory cat back for something lighter (if you haven't already). Toss the OEM front calipers and get sp00m calipers. Lightweight bling bling wheels instead of OEM/stock.

Got to nickle and dime everywhere. But if the car is street driven, do not remove the bumper support/reinforcement. 50/50 on the reinforcement bar that's located under the rear seats. That's your call.

Depends on how much you want the car to look like a street car or a theft recovery vehicle.

That's why I'm droppinjg weight like an Olsen twin.
EG's with b18c1/5 motors are like a plague, and they're fast too.

-An ACT flywheel will drop another 6 lbs
-Rear seat belts are about 12 lbs
-airbags are about 25 for both

And back to the same question I posed from the beginning,

For what purpose other than just to lose weight?

Is this for any type of club sanctioned competition? Because rules will strictly dictate as such, and knowing them and following them is key when deciding to build or remove anything from a car.

And I do know of a certain someone here that actually added some removed items back because these removed items moved him into a more competitive class where he didn't have much of a chance.

Even if it's for 1/4 mile, there will be rules and classing. Or at least there will be once you graduate from fun running into sanctioned club racing.

If it's for street bangin then the point is moot.

there's alot of sh*t that can be taken out. what's the purpose of the car? mine is a fun "street/strip" car stock was about 2250.

1880 LB EJ coupe. :D

it's gonna loose 100 more lbs soon with aid of the following:

carbon trunk/drag brake kit/n1 crank pulley/lighter flywheel/ lighter battery/lighter steeringwheel/lighter seat/lighter seat belt harness...etc..

eventually gonna take out all the misc metal/bracing/brackets and add a x point harnes/cage. pending how "fast" i wanna take it

Don't be shy with it. At a couple of points I actually had my gauge cluster duct taped to the steering column and had the dash and the complete heater/climate control assembly out of the car.
