well, after poor planning on my part, i tapped my oil pan almost directly behind my downpipe. not cool. so now im looking to get another oil pan and do it correctly this time. can i tap the pan on the shallower part? it will be very close to the top, but on the shallower part on the left if you are looking at the pan head on. my turbo sits to the left a little, and in order for the return to go straight down, id have to put it there. if not, then i gotta have it go down and kinda around the downpipe, which will be a pretty big pain in the *** to make happen

If you tap it below the oil line, your oil won't drain out of the turbo and you'll have to spend a few hundred dollars to rebuild your turbo.

as close to the top as possible but at a point where it would be lower than the turbo oil drain...
best way is to mount turbo and oil pan and save th e drilling for one of the last things...

Oil does not get to the turbo from the oil pan..it gets it from a source that provides oil pressure. Some people run oil feed lines from the block to the turbo..and then the oil returns back into the oil pan from the turbo via the oil return line.

Also make sure you're between two bolt holes on the pan or you'll be sorry when you can't get one in.
