I am looking for a good short shifter for my 99 Civic EX and I have read other posts saying the B&M makes a really good one. However, the one that I am looking at does not have a bend in it. All the others that I have looked at do. What is the benifet of the bend other then bringing it closer to me?

Any ideas?

they are really all about the same. which one are you looking at?

DC sports is the only company that I know of that makes a "bad" one.

 

why do you say dc sports makes a bad one? Cause that is the one I got

 

only reason, is that I know of 3 people on this board that have had theirs "snap" in two. it should function just fine, but it's the only one I know of that has tendancies to break.

 

Most short shifters are made by the same place and then given their own brands the one that I think feels the best is the skunk2 short shifter, the reason is because it is counter balanced, it feel very good and will give you sure persion shifts.

 

B&M Edge racing shifter

 

I had the DC sports upper Strut bar on my civic. That thing can almost be bent with your bare hands, not to mention the inability to stop chassis flex. I think their build quality in general sucks. I sold the bar for 50 bucks.

 

i have the B&M pro edge waiting to be put in my car...im waiting for my bushing kit to come. I think the reason that the B&M isn't bent is cause the bend is meant to make the shifter closer to your hand, and the B&M shifter is meant to be used w/ BM bushing kit, which allows one to adjust the nuetral position up to one inch foreward or rearward from stock. This adjustability level eliminates the need for a bend.

Have fun with the b/m.........i'm not having too much fun with it cuz it rattles like mad.

 

You prolly need the bushing kit martilafox...

 

I went to B&M site and they have the bushing kit for the 99 Civics but it looks like the same one that Energy Suspensions makes. The only one that looks adjustable is the "Honda short shifter system" but it is only for the Accord and the prelude.

Somebody have any ideas?

got the bushing kit hoping it would solve the problem . . nope....people say to tighten the connection on the shifter and linkage...nope again. . . removed the heat shield.....nope again.........i've come to the conclusion it's b/m's lame attempt to create a CHEAP short shifter, and the problem lies in it's design. compare it to all the other short shifters out there and you'll see where the problem lies.

 

I have heard 50% of the people say they are one of the best and work great with no rattleing, and 50% say they suck and are really annoying

Get the C's and the Spoon bushings

 

They are all the same and it boils down to "You get what you pay for." I have had an OBX short throw and I had no problems, I actually have it still attatched to the linkage in my shed. When I got the new engine, I switched to a TenzoR short throw, no problems yet. Either you spend $100 and get the regular B&M, Neuspeed, TenzoR or spend $300 and get C's which is the best.

 

I hate to say it but this is the best one out there. You're going to pay a pretty penny for it though. I think $300 plus................

I have had a Neuspeed for about a year and so far the only thing is it is sometimes chunky going into 1st. Other than that I have had no rattling or other problems with it.

 

yup, Neuspeed is far from generic; they make their own. From the research I've done, the ranking goes like this:

c's - unanimous favortie
neuspeed - no bad reviews
b&M - mostly good reviews
everything else - will break in half sooner or later

 

I GOT THE B&M SHIFTER AND IT FEELS REALLY STIFF AND IT RATTLES AGAINST MY SHIFT LINKAGE ITS OK THOUGH.

 

I wanna add that the short shifter that Autozone sells is a piece of sheiat. Tottally. Rattles like a ****. I need to buy a real one one of these days. I guess it was a improvement over the stock one (aside from the rattling on the shift linkage...

no ****! my short shifter is a cheap *** matrix, costs like 40 bucks. over 2years w/out problems.....I love it

 

Ok, I have an update on my B&M short shifter install. I installed it in the beginning of November. Well it has been rattling like a bitch since I installed it. My shifter came with some orange rubber washers. I replaced the stock black ones with the new ones. Well like I said it rattled a lot. So today I got back under the car and put the stock ones back in the cylinder thing that goes in the end of the shifter. They seemed to be a little thicker. I also put the stock rubber bushing that goes between the linkage fork and the shifter back in, along with the big orange ones. I now have NO rattles. I figured this would help any body that has put in a B&M short shifter that rattles.

I hope how I explaind this makes sense. If not then let me know and I will try to explain more.
