Short Shifter
I am looking into purchasing a short shifter for a gift, been looking at skunk 2 but have recently come up on DC sports. Anyone know if there is a big difference, and can recommend a good short shifter. It is for a 2000 Honda Civic SI. Thanks!

yea i hear the DC snaps...though my cousin has it in his lude and its been 3-4 years, still hasn't snapped yet...i've got the B&M short shifter...love it...make sure you tighten things up good when you install it though...B&M short shifters are known to hit your exhuast pipe...mine use to, but just stopped out of now where...

you do indeed get what you pay for. A cheap shifter WILL break eventually. I bought a cheap generic one for $20 or so, snaped at the ball joint 7 months after i installed it- had to drive home in 2nd...not fun from where i was. I was at school and had to have my g/f drive back 3 hours to my mom's house to pick up the stock shifter. This was about 4.5 years ago.
Then i bought another one for a similar price (i didn't learn)...this time it broke at the base of the threads after 5 months. I then purchased a skunk2 short shifter. MUCH better. not only did it feel more solid, but it didn't break. I sold it for almost how much i bought it for as well. for skunk2 short shifters
if you do get one though you might have to extend the exhaust hanger if you have a stock exhaust system. The shifter might rub against the exhaust piping/heat shield. Minor $...just $5 from autozone though.
don't stiff on the short shifter if you get one - having one break is such a pain in the ***.

My B & M short shifter is one of the things I love most about my car. It's definately worth it to spend a little extra cash.

I definitely disagree. Totally different feel, I don't think I'll drive without my shortshifter again.

Re: Short Shifter
here is something to think about. i had a apc ss for a couple years now. i recently done a gsr swap and it also came with the stock shifter on the linkage. i ordered a b&m ss. i compared all three of them and they were all the same length from the ball to the bottom. the b&m was like 1-2mm longer than both of them. when i first did my swap. i put the stock gsr shifter on. and i was like it already feels like a short shifter. when i got the b&m in thats when i did the comparison. any input? so now i'm wondering bout the type-r shifter.

i always thought it was just all on the driver.. considering its just a piece of metal thats moves a bar around.. im thinking it has more to do when u press and release the clutch. of course if i buy a shifter im not going to buy the 10 dollar special

if you suck at shifting or try to shift to quickly then yes you will f-up your synchros (but you don't need a short shifter to do this), this is a driving style issue, not a short shifter issue.
