Wastegate Questions/Help me fix this *Pics* inside
Hey guys, this is my first time posting up pictures on HT, so I hope it'll work out ok. Ok here's the deal... I posted a thread a few days ago of waking up and my boost was gone. I found out why, and I'm posting a picture to ask a few questions about what to do.
Picture 1 (how'd that happen?)
2
3
4 (my motor - i know not the greatest looking in the world )
5 (mine as well see the car)
Ok, I'm no mechanice, so i dont know any of the technical terms. I know that the in picture 1-3 the wastegate is supposed to attach to that piece on the exhaust manifold.
my first question is, is that piece supposed to move?? because, I cant get it to go up or down, and i thought it might have seized up somehow.
When I pull that metal bar out to attach it, it's not long enough to reach. so im going to take a wrench and unscrew that nut to hopefully get it to reach.
so anyway, any advice or hints would be appreciated... i'm really not the brightest in the world, but i'd like to have my boost back ASAP. Thanks for any/all info! Peace

Can't you just reconnect it and thread it, and put a nut on the end so it doesn't happen again?
EDIT: Reread, it doesn't reach?

It is supposed to move, that is what shuts/opens for the exhaust to escape, controlling boost. I wonder why it is seized? Try taking your turbo off and lubricate it and move it open and shut until it moves freely.
Good thing it wasn't stuck closed, you would have over boosted.

Yes that should be able to move.
That 'thing' that doesn't move is attached to the flapper on the top of this picture.

yes, that falpper is supposed to move, you need to free it up and hook the wastegate arm up to that flapper arm. the wastegate arm shuold move a little too, it's spring loaded, and should pull out a little bit. try to avoid adjusting the wastegate screw adjustment

The little arm with the peg on the turbo should move. It should move in a counter-clockwise direction (kind of up & left at the same time...I think, looking at the picture). Right now it looks like it's stuck open. I've seen some turbos where the bolts/studs that hold the downpipe on if too long can internally run into the wastegate flapper and hold it open. Maybe yours was fine until it unlatched from the wastegate acuator, but when it came unlatched it was able to move far enough to get wedged into a downpipe bolt/stud. I'd say try to work it free, but if not maybe loosen the downpipe bolt closest to that & see what happens. Also, when you get it hooked back up (the arm over the peg), use a C-clip (looks like a washer with 1/5 of it cut away...in a C shape) that locks over the groove in the wastegate peg-arm to keep the acuator from falling off again.
Let us know how it turns out,

disconnect the vaccume hose that attaches to the turbo, coming from the wastegate
attach a air compressor to the hose and blow air in. The pressure will make the rod move out, attach rod to the flapper peg, drill a hole in that peg if there is not already one in there and put a spring pin through the hole.
