Default Overheating....

about a week and a half ago my gf's ej1 started overheating. Since then we found a crapped out water pump, radiator, and thermostat. We changed the radiator and waterpump for new ones, took out the thermostat cause we're in hawaii and we dont need it, and all the fluid levels are topped out. After all that it still overheats but takes about 10 minutes to do so and from then it (the needle) keeps jumping up and down. Theres no water in the oil, no coolant leak in the exhaust, no loss of power, and runs great (except the overheating) so I dont think theres a blown headgasket.
wtf is wrong?

Air in the coolant will also make the needle fluctuate, try bleeding the coolant and see if your problem still persists.

Y in the hell would u take out the thermostat completely.

your thermostat lets the hot coolant out of the eninge while the fresher cooler coolant comes into the motor. it cycles it. when u take out the thermostat its just a constant flow and it does not allow the radiator enough time to cool down the coolant. so do ur self a favor and put your thermostat back in

Yea you need the thermostat in so that the water will have enough time in the rad to cool off.so i would try a new thermostat and see if that helps.

What they said.

In addition to this the headgasket can be ruled out only after a comp. test. My Nephew ran around with the same problem your describing to the tee. I told him check your headgasket and he put it off until he came up and visited one week.

Well to make a crappy story shorter... new headgasket...no more problems.

Good luck!
