Default Coolant Problems!?!?!

I am doing this for a friend. He is having bad over heating problems. He has a 92-95 Civic 4dr AUTO, with a D16Z6. Every time he drives and starts overheating the reservior is boiling. I know his fans works all the time..... his radiator cap is fine. I thought it might be the thermostat but correct me if I am wrong but, there are 2 hoses that go to the radiator, one going in and one going out. If one of thoughs hoses is hot and one is not then its the thermostat. If that is true then I dont think its the thermostat. There is no leaking at all except when it starts overheating. I dont think its the water pump because when honda water pumps go bad for freeze up dont they make this grinding/ bearing lose noise? I dunno?.... I am stumped. Can someone help me out please!!!!

The car may be low on coolant....or maybe it's time to replace the radiator itself. I had the same issue a while back with my old LS-t setup. I eventually had to upgrade to a KOYO aluminum unit w/ a 1.3 bar radiator cap.

I dont think thats it...... His coolant is good and full but it starts spitting out of the reservoir when overheating. I dont think its the radiator because there are no leaks.

if the water pump was bad it would be leaking in that area. IMO, it sounds like the thermostat. replace it, it wouldn't hurt, it's like $8. check other coolant hose lines, make sure they don't have a small (sometimes a pin hole) leak.

my old radiator wasn't leaking either. It wasn't cooling fast enough since I had iron sleeves instead of the stock aluminum.
