02 sensor problems ***Long*** Wiring Gurus check in
Well it all started a couple of weeks ago. Driving along, and check engine light pops on. I check the code and it's code 1, primary oxygen sensor.
I have it changed almost immediately, OEM sensor of course. $$ more expensive than I thought.
Then about two days later, check engine light again. I go back to the same shop and they tell me the secondary sensor is out.
Replaced it. Again, OEM Honda. The Secondary sensor is even more expensive than the Primary sensor.
It was a little more because the first one was a POS. It was spliced to hell. So add $$ for some more wires, and one splice to lengthen the O2 to the spot it was originally in. The OEM wiring length was barely half of what I needed.
Now this is the tricky part. I'm driving down the street after both sensors have been replaced. when bam!
It's the Primary sensor again! Code 1
This is the damn problem. The guy at the shop told me that he switched these around and when he did the other sensor was giving the code.
The plug on the right is the "bad one"
He said that both 02 sensors were working properly, but that whichever sensor that was plugged into wouldn't give a correct reading. he was also saying something about the "heating wires."
I have an appointment to go on Friday so they can try to figure out exactly what is wrong. He said it could be the wiring in the plug, or the engine harness, or even the computer. I think they are only going to check the wiring around the plug.
Set Up: 99 dx coupe ej6
Engine: d16y7
Mods: i/h/e - converted from auto to manual 7/12/03
Has anyone ever had a short in their O2 sensor plugs?? Anyone have any advice, or something I could do on my own?? Should I try another ecu?? I feel like it is definitely a short in one of these wires somewhere in the harness. I just hope they can fix it.
