Default My Greddy Profec B spec 2 review

Ok first off the instructions are wrong. There are 2 ways to hook it up. One for external wastegates and one for internal. I followed the diagram for the external gate, went out and boosted on my car and the wastegate didnt open at all . Luckily I watched the boost gauge so nothing bad happened.

After about 20 miutes or so of over looking every thing as a last effort to fix it we hooked it up the way the diagram showed for internal gates. What do ya know, it worked like a champ. I thought it could only boost double the wastegate spring. On my high setting we tried 50% increase or so on the first test pass with high setting. Well I downshifted to third and it went up to 20psi for a split second (peak boost said 21). I then put it down to about 20% and now its holding 12psi steadily. Oh yeah the spring in the gate is a 8 psi spring (tial 35mm). Im not sure why its not only doubling the wastegate spring pressure but im happy cause now I dont need to install the new 12 psi spring that I ordered. Overall I like the profec b spec 2 . It takes a few minutes to get situated with all the settings but after 3 or 4 pulls up and down the interstate you can get it dialed in pretty accurately. Over all hook up time took about 1.5 hours that includes un hooking my turbo xs dual stage controller and greddy turbo timer.

the old profec B which im running now does the same way, it will only work right if i set it for internal wastegates... i think GReddy needs to address that problem cause it took me a while to figure that out. The stupid GReddy tech people didnt even know about it.

Anyone actually running this controller. Tonight I was boosting and I noticed that when it hit full boost the screen changed colors from blue to amber and kepy changing back and forth. Im not sure why it does this maybe its suppose to I really dunno. During the day I couldnt notice it but tonight I did. I thought maybe I had my warning set to low but I checked it and it was all good. If anyone has any infor n this please hook me up. Thanks.

Dont forget to set variables such as the open point in KPA or PSI (Depending on the mode)

and also the percentage is on a linear curve of opening... 50% necessarily isn't 50% more boost over stock and 100% is double that, otherwise you could only boost to 16 lbs.

then you also have the warning, and then the "gain" settings etc...

For me i found that the profec b spec 2 was able to spool quickly with the (do not open untill XX.X PSI/kpa) feature, and you are able to change this to help with any boost spiking that may occur, then gain control, then on the dual the high/low settings, plus the warning...

on top it looks cool

so the diagram for hooking up the vacuum lines are wrong? on the stepping motor i have the vacuum lines hooked up on the two side ports..left port to the top of the wastegate and the right side hooked up to the intake manifold.... am I supposed to use the middle one instead and plug up one of the side ports?? do you have any pictures?

thanks

Its odd, according to the instructions if you run it via "actuator type" it says to remove ALL the plugs and connect "COM" to the actuator, and "NO" to the turbo compressor or pressure source.

The "External Wastegate Install" doesn't say anything about taking off ALL the plugs, so I guess you just leave one in thier for the port that isn't being used? "COM" goes to top of wastegate, and "NC" goes to a pressure source, and the side port also goes to a pressure source.

Hopefully someone can clear this up

with external gates you do use the middle one. I opted to leave the plug out of the side cause I was thinking that it has to vent the extra boost of somewhere. I thought that maybe that its suppose to vent throught the port that is not in use. i could be wrong. I am running withouth the cap in though and it seems to work ok for me. Hope this helps.

hmm interesting.. i seem to have the middle cap on and the side connected.. i can't seem to turn up the boost though..no boost spike either...

hmmmm i should try it your way.. for the middle hole, did you connect that one to the intake manifold or the wastegate?

Ok on my external gate this is what I did. On the back of the unit that vacum line goes and tees into the fuel regulator vacum line. Coming from the wastegate it goes to the solenoid. From the solenoid it goes to the turbo. For external set ups yopu use the side and middle one. There should be nothing going from teh solenoid to the intake manifold. If you did that it is wrong.
