Default Throwing engine code 22 (vtec oil pressure) on b18c swap...

I am throwing code 22 (vtec oil pressure) on 96 jdm b18c in a 99 civic ex. I am running a obd1 usdm p72 ecu. Need help resolvig this issue.

PS. I know the jdm motors did not come with this sensor.. but how can I "trick" the computer into not looking for it so vtec will work? Thanks!

OK we figured it out (thanks to Phiz)!!! We wired the vtec oil pressure + wire into the vtec solenoid wire and grounded the other wire. No more engine codes and vtec works!!!! Night and day!!! And let me tell you guys.... this motor kicks some serious ****in ***!!!!

so what your saying is, you wire the the vtec oil pressure (blue wire) to the green yellow on the vtec solenoid itself? and just grounded the other one? the black wire is grounded anyway, so i dont see why you would need to ground that... please explain. thanks as i am having the same problem. USDM P72 on GSR(ITR) swap.

I thought you had to thread the solenoid in on the JDM motor...I swapped a JDM GSR engine in my Del Sol and did not have these problems. I also had the JDM ECU which solves alot of those problems by itself. The JDM ecu doesnt even look for one of the vtec solenoids....

Yes...we stripped some of the green wire coating off the solenoid wire and them wired the blue wire from the oil pressure switch to the newly exposed wire and then taped it all up with electrical tape. We are going to solder it at somepoint to make it cleaner.

As for the balck ground wire we originally wired it to the block...although I think it is just hanging now after Matt did some work this weekend while I was in NYC.

this is how it works
the jdm engine does not have a connector for the vtec pressure switch. but the us wiring harnesses do have that plug. all you have to do is jump it. get a wire, strip both ends, and plug each end into each pin on the plug (the plug is a 2 pin). that will make the code go away.

haha, I go online to find WHY there are so often problems with the vtec oil pressure, and I come across DVPGSR's thread, heheh.

Can anyone answer this. CEL 22 is a common occurance with the swap, I just dropped a USDM B17a into a car, USDM ecu, vtec oil pressure switch is wired correctly, as far as I can tell.

So, why would this code throw, I know HOW to fix it, but I want to know WHY it is so often a problem.

I wonder if a different grade of oil would change the problem. I've heard dented oil pans, reduce the oil system's capacity, and that might cause a problem.

The sensor is there to disable vtec engagment under low oil pressure situations. So in the rare occasion, that could cause a problem for the engine.

Everyone ask a friend, I'm dieing to know.
