Default Compression Check Discussion

There are many ways of doing a compression check on GSR's. I was wondering what would be some of your favorite LOL. Seriously what is the proper way of doing a compression check on a gsr motor as well as PSI numbers.
Thanks in advance,
EVIL

Evil,
it's pretty simple. take out the spark plugs, put the gauge in the SP hole, remove ecu fuse (so you won't have fuel in the cylinders), floor the gas pedal to open the TB, crank the motor over about 7 times. 180+ psi is good, 200+ psi is great (mine were all btwn 200-215). HTH, -C

I did my compression check without pulling the fuel pump or the ecu fuse. I doubt it gave me higher compression numbers than usual, but I will have to check again in the future.

Actually, having the ECU inject fuel can cause lower compression numbers, because all the puddling fuel destroys the oil seal w/ the rings. When I compression tested with the ECU fuse in, I actually got LOWER numbers than without it.

that's wierd, because when you think about it, the fuel in the cylinders would decrease the chamber volume and increase the CR. It'd be cool to do a controlled test to actually find out exact how much it changed in either direction. -C

Well either way my compression numbers are higher than 200, so I am a happy camper.

you should make sure that your engine is at the proper opertaion tempature when doin a compression check.

Oops...I just did a check without pulling the ECU or hitting the gas...
It was a spur of the moment thing...I need to do my homework

My #s were kind of low...would that be the reason?

I still got high numbers, by not pulling the fuse.
Your car is a 95, it might be time for some ctr pistons

The fuel does not really stay in the cylinders for all that long... it leaves the exhaust valves. I have tested many times and I always get lower numbers with the fuse in.

hell yeah, that's why. If you don't press the gas pedal, the air has to squeeze around the TB. Your number will be way low (I did that too a long time ago on my other Teg).

I don't have my Helm's here at the office, how do you turn the crank? Do you need a special tool? Or Just jack up the car and turn the wheels. I heard 5 turns at teh Crank was fine. As long as it is consistant for each cylinder.

You can buy a compression test kit. Comes with a gauge and a couple of fittings on the end of a hose. The hose goes in place of one of your spark plugs.

Um, the spark plugs holes are the holes where the spark plug wires going into. on the GSR, it's under the grey spark plug wires. The compression test tells you how well your motor is sealing on the compression stroke which can tell you if your rings aren't sealing or a valve is bent. No, you can't do this with the motor on for obvious reasons (won't start with no plugs).

WOTTEG:
when I said crank the motor, I meant using the key and ignition. Do it 7 times (ecu fuse removed). HTH, -C
