Default Repost of Annoyin B16 problem!

Okay...here's a link to my old post
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=525879

the UPDATE on it.

I timed my car up right now...it was a 14 degrees and now i put it at 17 degrees advanced. I run only premium fuel so, no dings so far...
ANd I know my timing belt is tight.
It seems like some sort of sensor has gone bad, or is sticking.
Stilll no CEL!
I also did the new fuel filter...which was probably long overdue...

The car drives fine, pulls hard, everything normal while driving around...till...
when i go to stop, i usually pull it out of gear or just push the clutch in. when i do this (putting it in neutral) the car idles extremely low for a min, and will either sputter to about cut off, or cut off. But it starts up fine again.

Its either some sensor, or a gummy tb or intake manifold....but i don't know.

Thats why this post will be in like 3 forums.... I'm tired of my car cutting off. The exterior makes it enough of a pos, now this?!?!?

replace/ add:

1. fuel filter

2. spark plugs -- stock setup (cams, manifolds?) 44 thousandths gapped NGK R's.

3. ground kit.

my car was detinating after installing jun3 cams, the i replaced my garbage denso plugs with 38 gapped NGK Rs, and it ran considerably better. plugs make a big difference.

I had this problem, check the "backup" fuse in your fuse box under the hood. It should be popped. Replace it and you're straight. Peace. Let me know

Its a long shot but you might want to check the choke. I have b16a1 ( aka first gen ) and the choke is located on the back of the throtle body and looks kinda oval wit a screw on each end if you open that up, you see a white lookin button. around it is the choke setting, all you have to do is spin that to the left i belive and should work. I had kinda the same problem but it would shut off on me, so try that and let me know if that works... good luck

do you think you could dig up a picture of what you are talking about? do you mean the idle screw?

also do You think you could be more specific on which one you are talking about? Is it the really big fuses, or the smaller normal fuses...like the hazard..etc...

to me it sounds like your IAC valve isint adjusting fast enough to keep the car at teh target idle. take if off and clean it. the IAC is located on the back of the intake manifold and is help in by 3 bolts i believe. i cleaned mine by spraying a bunch of carb cleaber in until it came out clean

i think today I'm just gonig to look for all the little valves, sensors...etc...

I know it doesn't have any vacum leaks also...if that helps....what do you think caused all this to happen. Ive had the swap for about 1/2 a year now.

My hatch was doing what your car was doing. I thought it was a mechanical problem but it turns out it was just the fuse. The fuse under your hood says "BACKUP". Look on the cover and it will show you exactly where it is. It should be a 7.5 amp fuse right in there.

b16_madman: I have the same problem, I also have a b16, My idle problem is exactly like yours.... when comming to a stop, my idle drops low and the motor wants to shut off...

I am going to try the iacv and carb cleaner today probably.... my plugs are clean, all vacum hoses connected..., timing is good.... sucks big time to have this problem, but atleast you arent alone

I know it sucks don't it. But drives very good when you are goin.

EDIT/UPDATE:

Today I took off my throttle body and cleaned out all the deposits with STP throttle body/intake cleaner. I even went as far as shoving a clean rag into the intake manifold trying to get out as much black suit/buildup as I could.
I also checked my plugs today. They were whitish lookin, so meaning it has been running lean. (i adjusted the timing to 17* of advance, it was @ 14*)

But before I go out and spend some money on just plugs, should I go ahead and invest in a new fuel pump? And/Or fuel pressure regualtor?
What would be a good recommended fuel pump upgrade? Most likely I want to put it in the spot where the stock one goes. Can I use newer Teg or Civic si pumps?
