Alright, the handle to the dipstick on my 97 del sol (d16y8) broke off and I need to get it out. Convienently, I also need an oil change.

Looks like I am going to have to remove my oil pan and push the dipstick back up so I can remove it and get a new one. I've got a few questions before I take on this project:

Will I need to replace the oil pan gasket? If so, what is the best way to remove the old one?
How much new oil does the car take?
Is there anything else I should know that I prolly won't think about until it actually happens?

dropping the pan is reletively easy, when installing the new one(gasket), use hondabond, or another sealant, and make sure you tighten the bolts in a circular pattern starting with the middle. and they MUST be tightened to spec to avoid leaks.

 

i notice there is like some oil around my oil pan, u think that could be the cause of the old age of the oil pan and its gasket? maybe i should change it the next oil change!

Oil pan gaskets are notorious for leaking.

 

I just did my Z6 oil pan gasket yesterday.
Need to remove the header, and tranny cover plate, and tranny brackets.
Drop the pan, clean it.
I didn't use any RTV as FEL- PRO said not to, and I want to keep the warrantee in case.
10 foot pounds seemed like it was crushing everything, so I just got them tight.
And it leaked right next to the tranny. Damn.
Undid the header and tranny cover, snugged the bolts a bit more and it's good.

All in all though, the work isn't hard.
