Default Speedo is waaaay off after swap?

While driving around today, I noticed my speedo is wayyy off.

While I'm going ~35, the speedometer says that I'm going ~55-60mph or so.

What would be causing this? It was fine before the swap, and the cluster hasn't been touched whatsoever.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem, when I'm doing 65mph my speedo says I'm doing 75 or so. When I'm doing 100 my speedo says 115mph, I've always figured it was the size of my tire and rim throwing it off. What is the size for the stock wheels and tires on a LUDE?

ya. i'm having the exactly same issue. My speedo is about 7-8 MPH off.

the stock lude tires from 92-95 were 205/55R15's I believe.

For the Type SH's, they came with 16's.

I paced my car with my friend's brand new street bike as well as other vehicles.

LOL. what's funny is, i usually drive about 8-9 over the speed limit, and I have never gotten a speeding ticket with my swap..

wonder why? probably because I'm driving the exact speed limit LOL =X

Bah... just go the flow of traffic and don't stick out like a sore thumb and you'll be fine. BTW, stock Prelude has a 65 series tire, so the rotational diameter is greater, thus throwing your speedo off 8-9%. But what you said originally about going 35mph, and the speedo saying 55, then it sounds like there's something else wrong.

Hmm, 15x6.5 with 195/50R15's have around same rotational diameter?

You sure it's 65 series? That's friggin huge. I believe it's 60 for the Prelude Si and Prelude VTEC.

hmmm, it might not be as far off as I'm thinking it might be (I haven't paced with another car yet), but it's for sure off by a larger degree than I'd like.

It's not really a big problem, it's just annoying. I like to keep track of my actual MPG, and the speedo being this far off makes it pretty hard to do that.

So if I get the same overal diameter tires as what the prelude would come, the speedo will be accurate? Cuz it's for sure VERY annoying to me. lol.

Heh, I didn't say the same, I said greater rotational diameter than a 15" rim w/50 series tire

60 series, 65 series.... eitherway but like what somebody else said, it's not a 55-series tire on the Prelude. But that's still generally the reason why the speedo is slightly off with a H22 swap, using the H22 VSS.

hmmm. I see...sorta.

what size would I have to get, with say a 16" for it to be accurate? Or even a 15" at that?

Newman, if I could use a b series tranny VSS would that make it more accurate? Are the H and B series VSS's even swappable?

Yeah, 16x7 rims with 40 series would have pretty close rotational diameter.

I guess I don't understand how the sizes play into the diameter.

I was hoping to run 195-50-15's....how far off would that be?

I run 205/40/16 and I'm still off by 10mph(my guess)

dayam. looks like we're all screwed unless we run some blinging 18" rims with 40 series

LOLOL!! I thought it was just me!! that's good to hear it's not. anyway, mine's off by 5 now with my 205 series 15's. It WAS off by 9 with my 14's. Oh well. I do the conversion in my head automatically now.

How do you guys figure the wheel diameter is the cause of the speedometer to read inaccurate?

I believe my civic speedo was reading accurate before the swap. But, last night I knew it was off and tested it with a friends BMW. I'm reading 80 when she's doing 72mph. I just dropped a GSR in my EG so I am betting it's the new motor.

I have a GSR cluster waiting to go in. Will the GSR cluster give me an accurate reading of my speed?

Thanks!
