Default Why not do a ITB setup with a turbo?

I don't think it's ever been done...

But why? Couldn't you still use all 4 throttle bodies to your advantage?

Anyone?

a few have done it..u couldnt really boost high because of the high compression it has..but yes it can be done.

it has been done plenty of times.. Look in the JAP viedos and mags.. i have seen ITB's with FI...its a pain in the *** to make the intake manifold

And the purpose of this would beeee............OH I KNOW, TO make a mod that would be touch to design and produce and make tuning more difficult w/ little power gains. Hell, if thats what your into, why not go NA?

Shouldn't it create more even flow throughout each port. Vs. all that boost cramming into 1 TB, who knows how much is actually going into each cylander.

So it can be done... interesting...

Gary gardella was rumored to use itb's in his ecko civic. Tuning them wouldnt be as hard compared to the N/A versions with no plenum. You have to create a vaccum box large enough with no plenum so that you can hook up the map sensor to read pressure. With the plenum you can tune via pressure instead of throttle position.

Itb's would significantly increase power production, especially mid-range and top end. I would expect 50-75whp horsepower gain over the standard t-body and intake manifold at higher boost levels. This is going to depend on your plenum shape, length of itb runners, diameter of the itb's among other factors. I'd like to experiment with them if I had a strickly drag car. For a street car, just run the standard single t-body and intake manifold. Simplicity is the key to a fast street car.

after you created a place to hook up the upper charge pipe to the ITB's haven't you effectively basically just created a plenium? Defeating the purpose of ITB's altogether and making it just a regular intake mani?

The concept of individual throttle bodies is to allow each cylinder to recieve its own air. The plenum is just a medium for transferring air to each throttle body. Regardless of the plenum, each cylinder is receiving equal amount of air. Plenum size will have some effect, but not as much as with the standard intake manifold.

yea i understand that, but would your upper charge pipe just have to split off into like 4 deals to go into the ITB's to reap the benifits?

Gary gardella's set-up used a giant plenum to feed the air into the itb's. I have seen FI cars that use ITB's have the charge pipe feeing into the middle of the plenum, with the a u-shape to the plenum to distribute the air equally as possible.

I am thinking on the same basis as mike man, somewhere the air from the charge pipe is going to be divided into four. I was also thinking purely from a street car point of view and an emphasis on simplicity.

wouldnt the u bend hurt the air flow and kinda kill the power you would be seeing out of running the itbs?

The shape of the plenum was a u style shape, not a u-bend. The entire plenum looked similar to half a circle. It was on a toyota. I am not sure exactly what engine, or what car I found the image awhile ago on google image search.

Turbo skylines have them from the factory with a huge plenum that has a 3" inlet.

This is a pic of Garys intake setup from the end of last season at Pomona...

Unless he changed from last yearts setup, i dont see any ITB's...

I heard rumors of him using them for testing. I dont know if any those rumors are true. The person that told me described the set-up, but i cannot confirm anything he told me. I did see that set-up in person that you just pictured at englishtown, so I knew that he wasnt currently running them.
