i am about to install an ls vtec in my car and i'm debating whether to balance and blueprint my block with the pistons and rods in it or just balance to the crank. i don't know what to do. if you have this setup what did you do to your block if anything and how is it working out? i know it's a pretty vague question but help me out guys.
thanks
thanks
i would atleast go .25 over with PR3 or P30 pistons, you will have a c/r or 11.4-11.6:1 with a PR3 head. GSR head and CTR pistons will raise it more. I hate stock bottom end LSVTEC's my friends runs a 13.5 in his EG which is okay but nothing special.
i've had 3 ls/vtec and all of them have blown with NOS! it was my fault! if the motor was built correctly! it should be very strong! the last one i've had was with je pistons, eagle rods and rings, ran strong for a good 6 months untill i blew with a 100 shot! but my friends have the same set up! and they havent even had one problem yet, its been almost 2 years now!.

If you rev to 8+, balance and blueprint if you can afford it. If you are using aftermarket pistons/rods, they are commonly already balanced within a gram, but I did the whole assembly to make sure. Pistons, rods, crank, flywheel, pressure plate at 7-8K, smooth as Britney's ***....

thanks guys i think am i actually going to go with a gsr block instead of the ls/vtec because for the cost of the balance and blueprinting of the ls block i can get a gsr block. think i'm gonna go the reliability route.

Yeah, that's the way to go. I'd get PCT Civic R pistons in there. That would be a nice set-up. I had 25 over PCT pistons in my LS/VTEC (GSR head). Had to put 101 in that biatch all the time. Fun motor though. Shame the head gasket and clutch went bad. 12.98:1 CR is cool. Won't be that high in a GS-R block though.
my first ls/vtec was stock bottom end, with a type R head. fuel and everything was stock! i was able to rev up to 8500rpm and up to 88 on track days. oh wait i also had crower springs.
