rust solutions?
i have some rust on my quarter panels, i know what you are all about to say, i have to cut a new one and so on. well this is my daily driver, i dont give a **** how it looks, i just dont want it getting any worst. i was thinking of taking a wire wheel or grider to the rust, fiberglassing it but then i have to paint that area and it will be so outta place and not worth the work for how its gonna look.
i heard of something you jsut put on to of rust and it stops it. ever hear of it? what do you guys think i should do? i want minimal work and no more rust.

Rust is cancer. Its gonna spread eventually.
You can try this solution and tell me if it works. Put POR-15 on it.
Google "POR-15". You just brush it on and it is supposed to stop the cancer from spreading by sealing the rust.

so i ordered some. i got the starter kit cuz i dont have too much rust. but as soon aas i ordered it, i come to honda-tech and on the top there is a sponsor for rust bullet. lol damn it.
anyways, im gonna try this and try re-enforcing the rear panels and a lil filler and paint that area, you wont be able to tell till you get closer. but we will see, ill update this once i get the stuff and go to work

i dunno... this **** says it guarantees. ive heard of stuff like this before. ill believe it till it proves me wrong. im just thinking, if i paint the rust and it secures it, i still need the rear bumper supports due to the rear quarters rusting the supports out. i have to think. any ideas?
cburke, thank you for stating what i already knew as far as the right way to to it, i must have forgot between the time i began this thread and now. thank you
anyways, im gonna try this rust ****, we will see how it works, ill post up soon

ok so i just started on it. i chipped away exess rust so i can get to the root. they gave me a cleaner, a prepper then the paint, also gloves brushes and instructions. first, chip away what ever brittle rust you can, then clean with degreaser provided. rinse and dry, then metal prep, sit for 15 mins, rinse and dry. then on goes the paint. this paint is thick. in the instructions they say the paint clings to rust better than smooth surfaces. i covers all the rust and maybe a half inch past it. it takes 2-5 hours to dry depending on the climate. i will have pics of it after the paint.
it says the paint is weak to uv rays, so im going to top coat it temporarily with some rustoleum. these are the pics of the rust chipped away leaving some behind.
then when i get some more time, im gonna fiberglass it and make it look normal. i just dont want it to get worst, not trying to win a car sho.

also, for all those who dont know what they are talking about when they talk. rust is a product of iron and oxygen. the body panels have FE in them there for they rust. if you seal it from oxygen, it cannot rust. unless of course it is scratched. so for the rust doesnt sleep comment. sure it can, until it is woken up.

all done, after the por15, i painted with rustoleum cuz i wanted to leave and it is weak to uv rays. next day, i fiberglassed and bondoed. it will look normal with a factory paintjob, i just left it black now. looks good, wont rust, waiting for a full paint job soon. or maybe when im done with the school year.
