Buying a car with signs of rust?
***Not sure if this goes in this forum, mods please me if not.***
I've been shopping for cars and have found a few egs with signs of rust showing on the quarter panel and looks like rust is forming from a few paint chips/scratches also. The signs of rust are really small. The car itself is good i'm just concerned about those rust spots giving me trouble in the future. anyone have input on this?

put it this way, unless the rust is cut out and re welded with a new peice of quarter panel or whatever then the rust is never going to stop. its like having.. a std, never goes away , just gets worse.

totaly up to you, if you can do body work go ahead, or if you dont plan on keeping the car long buy it, get the rust remover, sand it, paint it, then it'll be a few more years till it visible again.. but it wont be your problem then. the rust is very common with the eg's, dont stop many people from buying them.

Its up to you. I picked up a 95 hatch with minor rust on each of the rears and driver side sill. When I say minor I mean the size of a quarter. Granted you can find a 95 with no rust, but a 95 is what like 12 years. So eg's will be anywhere from 12-15 years old. Even the most well taken care car can have rust, my dad's 2000 accord had minor rust. If you only want no rust, focus you search on cars below the salt belt. But imo, I would rather have a 100%bone stock original paint hatch then something that has been modded. Trust me when I tell you that you will know when you have found the one.

Rust is okay in some spots, when I say some spots I mean small metal peices that can easily be replaced. If rust is found, or signs of it starting on the quarter panel; walk away. It isn't worth the headache.

The salt belt would include states which salt their roads to rid the pavement of ice and salt. That would include most of the Midwest and Northeast. Canada and New Jersey definitely would be included in the salt belt.

More like car AIDS.
We've stopped cancer, AIDS is something EVERYONE dies from when they get it.
Like how when civics start getting rust, it's death is inevitable.

You could get a little cancer and have it cut out. Your car could get a little rust and have it cut out. You cannot have AIDS cut out.
We have not cured cancer or AIDS of course. Everything that gets rust does not die of rust or even end up rusting out.
When Civics start getting rust, you can cut the affected part out (if you waited to long) or just sand it down (if you caught it as surface rust) and then replace that part.
