Default making your doors lighter?

i heard someone once say that you can remove the inner pannel of your front doors and remove the metal and fill it with some kind of... something..that still makes it safe but removes alot of un needed weight... anyone know what im talkn bout ? how do you do it? and also .. how would you still make your windows work? (i have a manual doors) i dunno i swear i wasnt dreaming when i came up with this.. so anyone let me kno! thanx H.T.

its a muscle car thing they put filler in there to make the "clunk" noise that we dont have, if you take ur panel off you see nothing, 70's doors arent solid steel but they were meant to sound that way so people thought the car was safer

since im in trial status i can only edit 5 post a day thing:

the plastic windows you kids are reffering to are known as lexan in the racing world, and scrtache easily and do not work well with the stoock crank and are usally riveted and liquid gasketed in the vehicle i recomned only doing the 2 rear hats side windows

and you can buy lexan in a smoked or tinted feel at any major tune shop

Yeah There's nothing really you can remove from your doors to make them much lighter. Especially being manual windows.

Go on a diet.

There is very little, if anything, you can do to make the doors lighter without sacrificing safety. You can remove the inner plastic trim panels if you want, but it's honestly not worth the minor weight savings on a street car, in my opinion.

You can replace the glass with plastic (some businesses sell this) but you really don't want to deal with broken plastic windows. They shatter and are very very sharp. I wouldn't recommend them for a street car in case you're in an accident.

I didn't mention anything about carbon fiber windows. I did get the joke though.

There are actual plexiglass windows though.

I actually made my doors heavier. Why? so my speakers sound better. Seriously I put some of that Roofing flashing asphault with the aluminum backing on the doors, made a big difference, I also used some aluminum insulation to reflect sound.

The windows dont weigh to much honestly, seriously like 1/4th the weight of your spare tire. Thats nothing. That extra cash saved could buy you something useful, like 9 months of oil changes

Of course they don't. but if he wants to lose weight from his doors he's going to want to look into gutting them, putting in non-movable plexiglass windows and carbon fiber doors.

There isn't a whole lot to do to make the doors any lighter than they already are.

this is true, probably the best is making them STAY light.

As in cleaning them out once in a while. I have-HOLY SMOKES HOT CHICK, x2.....I found so much crap in the doors, buisness cards, water, tree branches, ect, ect.

i LOVE going to junkyards and ripping apart the cars there, sometimes you will find items that will SHOCK you! For instance, some mugen goodies stashed inside a minivan. I got a Type-R strut tower bar, and a CTR climate control console.

I think the best one was finding some hot chicks diary in her white 06 civic SI. Seriously, the stories in this diary were almost taken right from a XXX website, crazy stuff. She also had her myspace password and SSN in there. I didnt know what to do, return it? or just burn it and forget i ever read such horrid language, and pretend I never read her myspace messages?

The joys of junkyard diving. Ripping door panels off with glee
