Default 99 DX fuel priming/starting issues

Here are the symptoms: If at 1/4 tank of gas and lower after the car sits overnight or for an extended period of time the residual fuel pressure drops so that if I try to just start it it will crank and crank and crank, so for now I have been just priming it twice and it starts fine everytime. Also occuring at the same time (not sure if its related or not), when started the engine will idle up to approx 2k and stay there for about 1 min regardless of temperature or what is being done, meaning if I drive the car and push the clutch in and stop the idle will come right back up to 2k, but then about 1 min passes and the idle will drop right down to where it should be and it never happens again all day, only at first start up overnight. I know its not the throttle sticking I've cleaned it out. Other things fixed or repaired on the engine have used all OEM honda parts and have been : Distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, evap purge solenoid (CEL came on), alternator (Reman Honda). The car has 172,000 on it so I know that it may be due for a fuel pump if it has an internal check valve or something else. These problems do not show up as anything else, no lack of driveability or smoke at startup, engine was very very clean under the valvecover, i bought it at 167000 miles. I just want to weed out the problems to make it a nice reliable daily driver. Thanks for the help.

Well since I didn't receive any real responses from this thread I'll at least finish it so that future searches may yeild better results than I had. Since I work at a Honda Dealership in the service dept I went onto our computer to search for my symptoms on the Technical Service Bulletin lookup. Bulletin No. 92-043 most closely resembles my problem even though my car is a 1999 and the bulletin pertains to a 1992. It reads as follows:

Long Crank Time

SYMPTOM
An abnormally long crank time before the car starts.

PROBABLE CAUSE
The check valve inside the fuel pump is leaking.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the fuel pump with the parts listed in PARTS INFORMATION.

Now this bulletin provides information specific to the 92-95 civic fuel pump replacement, however it will be very close to the 99. The major difference being that the 99 fuel pump has the plastic retainer clips to hold the fuel pipes to the fuel pump whereas the 92-95 has the familiar banjo bolt and washers. Hope this helps.

I'm surprised no one hopped in. Glad you figured it out though. GL with the fix.

This forum usually at least get a post in with some concern. That's odd you didn't get my TLC.
