Remote Start
I was just wondering since i have no clue about alarm systems, how a remote start can be installed on a car with a clutch. I assume that there is a way for the remote start to bypass the usual system of starting a car.
The true remote start systems for manual trans vehicles make you place the trans in nuetral with the parking brake set, release the clutch pedal, and turn the ignition off, or some such other specific sequence or the remote start won't work. Some people have hacked in a system for auto trans vehicles and justify their work by swearing they will never leave the trans in gear, so they don't see any problem with that.
Overall, my opinion is remote start is just some woopie-doo gadget and is totaly unecessary, and I live in a very cold climate.
just my opinion.

Yes, they run a bypass. On mine it's a little funky. After I remote start, you have to insert the key and turn it to the run position before you do anything. If I get in the car and press the brake or clutch before I insert the key, the engine shuts off and the ignition becomes disabled. To re-enable the ingition, you have to press the "unlock" button a couple times on the remote. When I shut the car off, I have to have the car in neutral with no pedals depressed.
Also, you need to be sure you do not leave the car in gear when you park. If your shifter gets locked out it's easy to release.

Most shops will not install a remote start in a MT vehicle unless they have some sort of wavier releasing them of any sort of liablity. But yes they basically bypass the clutch switch. Other shops use something around the shifter so that if the car is in gear it will not start via the remote start.
I've had it on vehicles before and it can be nice but it is kinda unneccesary in most cases

Mine was the same way... I beleive this is how pretty much all of them are setup

It would still be nice to have, but the car does warm up very quickly in the morning.

authorized DEI installers are not allowed to install the remote starters on any MT vehicle, and if you own a DEI remote starter and you install it yourself (on your MT car) it voids your warranty.
and DEI remote starters have those security features ie, turning the ignition to the "on" position before pressing the brake or releasing the e-brake. it's the same thing as the hood pin, just another layer of security to deter theives.
the remote starter may not be neccessary for those who don't mind warming up their cars before taking off. but i know i loved using it on my DB7 when i still had it. that thing took forever to warm up. haha
