Tuning With Zdyne Gold SECU
Hi there,
Has anyone got any comments on tuning the Zdyne Gold SECU? I know a little about mapping (perhaps that's obvious if you read on) and am trying to find someone to do it for me. I may just be ignorant, but there is one glaring problem that everyone i approach raises:
How do you know what "cell" on the lookup table the ECU is using when tuning, as the ECU does not show you? And surley it must take ages to tune engines with it as you can't interactivley alter the fuel/ignition at a particular "cell" while running in constant load mode on the dyno?
So i assume the following?
You have to run the car up to where you are interested in.
Check the fuelling (let's say it's a bit rich)
Somehow find the cells the ecu is using
Change the injector pulse width a bit
Upload the whole map again
So it's basically guesswork - must take ages to tune, and it would take forever to get it perfect because of the long-winded approach?
Do i have to look at my boost/vac gauge and rev counter to find out roughly where my ECU is taking values from - that's hardly accurate surley??
Other aftermarket management systems almost half the price may require adaption to give it the required input signals, but at least allow interactive tuning?
Has anyone got any thoughts - i know Hondata allows you to see what cells the engine is using.
Thanks for the help

don't know if it'll help much but

Good place to pick up a few "tunes"

Try asking that question here:

There are many people with Zdynes there. Ask them how they do it.
Did you try the zdyne page first?

You guessed it right and there is no easy way to do it since Zdyne hasn't come out with datalogging yet and i'm really doubting they ever will. I normally take the car out on a empty highway at night and run it all the way up through the gears while watching the a/f meter and basically feeling how the car pulls. I then pull onto the shoulder and add or remove fuel in the general rpm areas where it needed it. Then start the process again. Once the fuel is about right i'll mess with the ignition timing some. I spent a couple hours on a couple of nights doing this before i got a map that i liked. Its not perfect but its the only way i could come up with. Having a friend with you who could watch the gauges would be very helpful. Perhaps we need to start a letter writing campaign to zdyne in an attempt to get them moving on the datalogging project.
When tunning the Z dyne I have found it very easy , Using a vacume/boost gauge for light thottle driving, that will tell you which group of cells to tune . Then for wide open running using a dyno is the way to go.
Z dyne is working on the Data loging for there system, I should be out soon. I have tuned many cars with the Z dyne , (including my personel car) , and I think it is excelent, especially for boosted applications.
