some might have a harder time holding boost if the spring is weak. Figure out what kind of boost you want, then find a spring thats like 75% that, then use the boost controller to compensate.

just my opinion

yes. the lower the spring the harder to hold high boost consistently. if it is too stiff, you CANT run low boost.

i bought the wastegate used, so i have no idea what kind of spring is in there. is there any way to tell? will it have some kind of marking on it?

what wastegate is it? TiAL uses color and two different diameter springs. look on their website.

ok, i just took the spring out. it's red, and about 4" tall. would this be the "big" one or the "small" one? according to this, there are two different sizes of springs. i just can't find anywhere that says the size difference between them.

regardless of size, i can adjust the boost lower or higher than what the spring is rated for, right? i've looked through some archived topics, and some people say the spring psi is the minimum you can run, while others say that you can adjust up or down, just within a reasonable amount. if my spring is the "big" red one, that means that its made for 11.6 psi. i'm planning on running around 8. would this work?

I was told that the spring is the minimum you can go and the controller can controll from there and up... But I'm def. not an expert on this.

correctomundo.
the lowest boost you can run, is what ever the sping is set for. and from that point you can increase with a controller.

so there's no way to run lower psi than what the spring is designed for?

less cutting coils out of it, no. unless it is an internal wastagate with a rod that is adjustable and you can lengthen it. but even then you can only go a little.

alright. would you happen to know the difference in sizes between the big and small springs?

the springs go by color and diameter. tial uses the same springs for all wg sizes. there is a "big" and a "small" and each has various colors. in the link you posted it tells you the diameter of the 2 types springs. this info can also easily be found on tial's website.

the small springs all have a 1.875" OD and the large springs all have a 2.36" OD. so just measure the one you have and go from there. like others have said you cannot boost lower than the spring pressure.
