Default Ran car with no oil

So here is the story, aparently a bolt slipped down inthe the timing belt cover and just made a little hole in the oil pump, enough to let all of the oil drain out. So ok towed the car home but before that I ran about 3 min before getting to a complete stop. Ok so next day I fixed the hole in the pump and put new oil in, and now it had a very loud knocking ticking noise. So I decided to check the bearings since that was my first conclusion (running car w/o oil = bearing failure). Well then guess what, my bearings were OK. So on to the head then because when listening to the sound via a screwdriver it sounded harder up top at the head, almost no sounf in the bottom end, but decided to check them anyways. Ok so i tore open the head and found this. Could this be abnormal wear caused by me running with no oil therefore the noise, or is it just normal wear?

Also in the part of the rocker arms the wear that you see is in all of them but on the same one if you catch my drift.

So are my cam journals messed up? Would this be the cause of the damn noise?

Those journals don't seem too messed up. I think if you polish/hone them out they will be fine. I don't think that is causing your noise. Does the knock seem to be at engine speed or half engine speed? Do all the rockers and valves move smoothly? Knock is usually from rod bearings, but I guess it could be pistons? Good luck.

Bearings were ok no problems there, only one that was a little scratched but crank was fine, and it seem to be at engine speed but if I put my hand in the spark plug cover and valve cover I could kind of feel the knock. I also simulated the cam with my finger as if it were hittinhg the rockers and it sounded like a really high pitch something close to what the sound was.

Yes there is a little bit on the cam journals but not on all of them and also in the cam lobe that is scarred I can feel the scarring with the nail and my finger.

I think he was referring to the cylinder walls.

I'm not talking about the cylinders in any part of this post so I don't thin he was. The pics here are for the cams, cam journals, and rockers. I also checked compression and it was all the same 300 all across.

no im not.

Then that could very well be your noise. If it is scard some then that journal could be now out of spec causing play in between the cam and journel.

Good luck.

neri this is exactly what i was predicting, the h23 that died in my prelude before i bought it ran w/o oil and half of the cam was henceforth part of the journal....

i reccomend polishing the extra garbage out of those journals and replacing the cams.....ps nobody ever said you had to replace them with stock ones....

Should I just polish them with sandpaper and polish and then replace the cams or is there another way that this can be done? Also who has some Type S cams that they want to sell me Should I have the need to replace the rocker arms that are scratched? or will they be fine? Or can a little polish like what is gonna be done to the journals be done to the rockers?

youre gonna need a helms and some precise measuring equipment to figure out if everything is still within spec, and if you have enough room to polish.....

pm me if you need help finding a helms manual

I would think that a valve grinding compound should do the trick with polishing the scars.

I believe he is refering to Valve lapping compound. There is a spec measurement for the rocker arms and pads. any scarring a fingernail would catch on those? If not you will probably be ok. Those pads are very hard and from the pics you engine was very properly mantained.

I think i'm gonna go ahead and the the head off and check the valves and pistons while i'm at it and take the head to a machine shop and let them check things out.
