my fill plug threads are stripped. im not sure how securely the plug is in there, but my mechanic put a bunch of jb weld around the plug. If i need to refill some fluid, i think i'd rather just fill it from the overflow hole, rather than pull the plug out again.

Pull the VSS and put it in from the top. Measure carefully though.

How the hell are you gonna change the fluid then? I believe that may be teh stupidest comment/suggestion I've ever read on HT...

Just get a tap set... and torque the nut to the recommended torque amount....

Its aluminum guys...there are torque settings for a reason.

I think we all agree that best solution is to tap out the fill plug threads. But, as long as you measure carefully like Trey says, what makes you feel so strongly that it's not possible to change the fluid using the vss?

I've changed it using both methods (fill hole/vss). Neither is difficult/preferred, but I usually do it through VSS and like the assurity of seeing some fluid come out of the fill hole.

Yes it will be secure. The VSS is the Vehicle Speed Sensor, its on the top, back side of the trans. The wire harness attaches to it.

You are going to drain it with the drain plug and fill it through the VSS carefully measured. I don't disagree tapping it woudl be preferred but if I recall correctly finding a tap that size is going to prove very challenging.

No arguement torquing it is important but not sure calling people stupid is very concstructive, I've been here a long time and seen a LOT dumber comments and suggestions.

Didn't call anyone stupid... His suggestion/comment however, was.

I'd like to know how someone might go about draining a tranny from the VSS.

Good grief. Where are you getting the idea that anyone in this thread is suggesting to use the vss to DRAIN the fluid?? It seems you're so busy trying to find fault with others' suggestions that you're absolutely oblivious to the fact that the tranny has a separate DRAIN PLUG. Here it is again in case you missed it.
