How to install ball joint?
Everyone says you just hammer it out and then hammer the new one back in. Well if you damaged the ball joint trying to seperate it from the LCA in the first place, how do you hammer a new ball joint into place without damaging it? where do you hit? etc.
I'm talking about the whole ball joint
thanks for the help.

Re: How to install ball joint? (suprmods)
If u can't rent the ball joint press, first take off the knuckle, then put it in a vise so it won't move, take off the retaining clip and hit that ****** as hard as u can from the bottom out of the top, then u put the new one in and hit the top flat part of the balljoint until u see the groove for the clip on the bottom, put on the clip and ur done

You've removed the knuckle from the car, I assume.
Do you have the nut off?
If you do, what does it matter if its damaged or not??
Just bash the threaded end with a hammer and pop it out the other side.
You really do need a press to put the new one in. Of all the ones Ive done, I have only ever gotten a new one in with a hammer ONCE

Re: (pdiggitydogg)
I was able to get mine it with a hammer and a 30mm socket. I put the socket on the top (flat part) of the new balljoint, then hammered it into the knuckle. Took a few minutes, but it worked.

ohhh so it has to come out of the top. I thought people were hitting the flat top part and removing it from the bottom. Then hitting the bolt part to get it to go back in from the bottom. I'm an idiot.
