Default D series piston swap.

Restoring for my friend D16A6 PM6 engine 89' year made. The possibilities-$$$ of tuning are quite low. Anyway we decide to do some fun. Did piston swap in engine. Have good PM7 set of pistons from Euro CRX D16A9 engine. Same size 75mm pistons.
We did valve job, new cylinder sleeves, new rings, gaskets, bearings.....

Anybody did here something like that? Going to late the timing for about 4 degrees. Could we expect some power rise?

Have pics, post them later.

this is very tricky setup, it loves to pre-ignite, so no amount of timing pull will help you. Try to use 88-91 head gasket (non metal one) it is slightly thicker and it might give you just enough room for tuning...

I have used d16z6 head gasket (metal) and I would not if I was doing this again...

Also in my case this engine disliked dynos, it would ping like nuts on the dyno so I had to street tune it...

One semi clean run on the dyno (after street tuning was completed) produced 130whp and 116tq...

Anyway it is 3 years old now and has 110000 km on it so far, it is still running strong, but it is just starting to burn some oil...
I think that I ended up with 7-8 deg less total timing by the time it was tuned...

Well I'm starting a D16A6 build right now. I'll be using the 88 Integra pistons at .25mm over. DFE just finished the block (bore/hone and deck) and installed the pistons on resized stock A6 rods with ARP bolts. Jim Justice polished at stock crank for me and DFE is doing the head. The valves will be back cut, stock springs and just a "Stock Type R" type work to the head. Still not sure if I'll just use a stock Si cam or go with something else. I have a Gude that DFE will profile so we see if I can use it with the stock valve springs. I'm trying to do a low bucks build so we'll see what happens.

Here are the picks of block:

Yeah, the head gasket. It will be non metal "Takoma" head gasket. Actually we are use in this engine only aftermarket parts. Rings are from C.T.I.. To not increase the price of repair. The budget engine. Anyway we all ready did lot of job.

I got this same setup on my crx and it doesnt have a tendency to ping. I run a PG7 ecu with it and it stays cool. I also have a large cam that brings the compression down a lil, but i dynoed the motor. It put down 134.5whp and 105lb.tq. It is very fun to drive, it has a very flat tourque curve all the way to redline. I think you will enjoy it very much.

Anybody count for compression rate after piston swap? The rods are from PM7 too.
