Car wont start sometimes....
Ok heres the problem... About 4 months ago my car all of a sudden wouldnt turn on. So I replaced the starter (bought the starter at Checker). Worked great for two weeks then it did it again. I couldnt figure out the problem so just to test I ran a hot wire from the battery to the starter. cranked right away. Tested that a few more times every time it cranked. So I ran a hot wire to the inside of my car to a switch that sends power to the starter instead of turning the key to crank. This has worked perfect until today. I had the same problem today when I went to go turn my car on. It just would not crank all the lights would light up but it wouldnt crank. I tried a few hundred times and it finally cranked about 10 minutes later. Is the Main relay somtimes not working? Do I have a bad starter that occaisionally will work? Or is there something I have just overlooked? I dont know whats happening here. Any suggestions would be great. Its not my daily driver but I would like to drive it a few more times before the snow hits.
i had the same symptoms as you about 2 months ago but it would only happen on hot days. i heard somwhere that as the main relays get older they wont work when it gets really hot. i got a new relay and havent had any probs since.
Its pretty easy to tell when your main relay isn't working, you won't hear the fuel pump turn on, your CEL light also stays on when your main relay isn't working. Since the solder in the relay has broken down over time the relay cannot work properly.
Workarounds are buying a new relay, getting a working used relay, resoldering your old relay if you have the skill, taking your coin holder out to allow the relay to cool down or tapping it lightly with a screwdriver or wrench.

My CEL light wont stay on but the other day when i went to turn my car on the CEL turned on for like 10 seconds and then went away. I had never noticed that before and I was like kinda "huh" and then it didnt turn on right away but did. Thanks guys going to Zimbrick (My honda dealer) tommorow buy a new main relay. Anyone know if you have to remove anything other than the coin tray... I was looking around today and it looks kinda tight to get to just from the coin opening. Thanks a lot once again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is why Honda-Tech kicks ***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
