Default Draft: Dropped bolt caught under oil pump sprocket = timing off.. help!

ok... ive owned 4 other integras. This one is a 98 gsr. I just bought it 2 weeks ago and the guy that owned it before me installed aem adjustable cam gears, ctr cams, and i/h/e..etc.... The gears had the old allen bolts in them so i decided to replace them with some 10 mm hex bolts.. well while installing the bolts my buddy's dad dropped one and we couldnt find it.... we were worried about it falling behind the timing belt cover but my friends dad said he didnt think had fallen there so he told me to start it to see if it would fall out and to turn the gear to get the next allen bolt to the top of the gear... anyways lo and behold the car starts, makes a couple f*d up noises and so i killed it... and sure enough we spot the bolt lodged kind of underneath the oil pump sprocket... yay ... after turning the crank pully back and disloding the bolt and getting it out, there is alot of slack on the exaust side of the belt, and tension on the intake side. when i tried to start it after the bolt was dislodged, it made some more f*d up noises so i killed it... also noteced a pressure mark(all the way through) on the timing belt. So tomorrow i have to attempt the change myself. ive read how to do it but never attempted it. do you think the noises could be the tension on one side of the belt skipping teeth or what?!?! i thought it could also be the slack slapping around.. im just worried that the bolt lodged could have siezed up somthing and turned something into aluminum shavings. i only started it for like 2 secs so i think its unlikely but im not an expert. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Set timing to TDC and see if the the belt corrects itself. But still, first thing you shoulda done was remove the lower timing belt cover. Tell your dad that timing isn't something to not second-guess yourself. Bad timing=bye bye valves.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by apok &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Set timing to TDC and see if the the belt corrects itself. After setting it to TDC, re-tension the timing belt tensioner:

1. Loosen tensioner about 1.5-2 turns
2. Turn crank pulley about 3-4 teeth
3. Tighten tensioner

Then I would rotate the belt SEVERAL times and closely look for damage. If that pressure buldge is still there, replace the timing belt. I would get/borrow a helms for that project. You will DEFINITELY need an impact gun to get off the crankshaft pulley.
good luck

well i pulled it apart today... the crank sensor or whatever down there broke.. i need a new one. I dont know how much it costs or what but i have the new belt on... i think i have everything in line.. the cross marks line up and the cams are straight up ( or inline with the camshafts and the ticks on the sides of the cover line up) . the white mark likes on with the crank pulley with respect to the cover ( which btw was a bitch to get off, used an impact gun) i just need to put on a new crank sensor and tension the belt and put it back together... thanks guys for your input.

bump..... it wasnt the oil pump it was the sprocket behind the crank pulley that the bolt was lodged under.. it busted the crank sensor.. . so all i need to do is replace the sensor, put it back together and tension the belt by turning 3 teeth and tightening the tensioner and ill be good right?
