Default 02 sensor: Slow response

That's the CEL I got. I had them clear the code and the light hasn't come on again but it's only been one day.

What does the slow response entail? How do I properly check to see if the 02 sensor is good, I really don't feel like droppoing 200 bones for a new one.

How many miles you have on the car? I've got almost 100,000 and I'm throwing that code right now also, I pulled out my sensor and cleaned it, but light came back on. You don't have to pay 200 for a new one, you can get a universal one and splice it in. Or get an aftermarket one, just don't buy it straight from honda, or get them to put it in, it's really simple to do.

car still runs good but i haven't gotten on it wot for the fear of the injections leaning out b/c of a possible faulty o2 sens.

I don't know what is wrong with it at 30,000 miles. Take it out and look at it and try and clean it. If it keeps coming on after cleaning and everything, then the only option is to replace it.

The code is saying that your o2 sensor isnt switching high and low quick enough. o2 sensors sense levels of oxygen in your gas and respond with a signal from 0 volts to 1 volt. In this way you can think of your o2 as an oxygen powered battery, haha. To keep your air/fuel ration at 14.7:1 the computer must see the o2 switching back and forth across .450Volts. a good set of data from an o2 would be .15,.8,.2,.7,.18,.75 etc......if your o2 is sluggish it tens to stay on one side reading .2,.3,.25,.7,.8,.7 etc..... A good scan tool will tell you this information and can plot it on a graph as well. or your can backprobe the signal wire from your o2 and watch the voltage swich on a multimeter. Good Luck.

Best Bet Replace the 02. If the problem comes back then you have something contaminating your o2. Usually silicon contaminates o2s....

good info. i'm gonna pull the spark plugs this weekend and see how it's running and try to clean the o2, then hit it w/ the helms to check the voltage.

There is a TSB (Tech Service Bulletin) out there concerning this prob. If your CPU cannot read within certain ranges, you have a faulty CPU. I am not sure of the ranges. This info came from a friend with access to a dealership olny access site. Thanks bud! Good luck to you as I am havin to fight the same probs.

Well I found out today the bad news. My ECM is bad. I have to replace everything to stock so my extended warranty will cover it and even then its goin to be hard. I got the print out for it as well. The car(s) effected are these:
98 civic EX PCM (A/T): P/N 37820-P2P-346RM, H/C 6104442
98 civic EX ECM (M/T): P/N 37820-P2P-345RM, H/C 6109268
99-00 SI ECM: P/N 37820-P2T-A12, H/C 6432587

I believe those numbers are on the ECM located behind the kick panel on the passenger side under the dash. There are other things that this effects as well including the RPM,VSS,ECT, and TPS. The dealership is the olny people I know of that can check this. The computer reads this as a slow response from the O2 sensor code DCT- P0133. Hope this helps.
