Default SFWD/Surge Tank

Since a fuel cell isn't allowed in SFWD, is a Surge Tank allowed?

why not just sump the tank. there are a couple of companys that sell sumps. check out full-race.com they have a nice low profile sump at a good price. chassis engineering also has a sump.

I would say yes it's legal as the CFT car has one. Just remember you have to have it sealed off (firewall) from the pass. compartment or you will not pass tech.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure it's legal. The whole reason they make you keep the oem tank is weight and so you don't get crazy with the fuel system, but if you keep the oem tank i can't imagine there being a problem.

I have an email from Jim saying they are legal. Just need to make sure you run all the lines according to NHRA's rules.

Does that mean you have to buy them from Stan?

I had a local radiator and gas tank repair shop do it in Orlando. It wasn't cheap almost $200.

I know Stan makes a pick up with a big sock filter to go with the Bosh pump since it is a puller pump. It seems to be a great alternative to sumping he has made several passes with his gas light on and has'nt had an starving.

Reading the NHRA rule book, it states:

Fuel cell prohibited. OEM fuel tank mandatory. No other container,
fuel cell, bottle, etc. may contain any type of fuel.
See Section 4
and General Regulations 1:5.

Reading that, I would say they are not legal. I would also think fuel coolers may not be legal for the class either.

Fuel coolers like Summit sells are for low pressure fuel systems (0-10 psi).

Ok, either way, the question is if the surge tank is legal though.

I would be interested in knowning this as well. Maybe an NHRA tech official can help us out...
