HOW TO: Swap EJ gauge cluster for rpm tach WITH PICS!
First off I searched for an existing how to and i realize their probably isnt one due to the simplicity of this swap however just to clear the air for everyone who doesn't know....here it goes.
Ok this is pretty easy. 15 min job at max without running into issues.
I have a 96 EJ hatch DX it did not come stock with a rpm tach. For those that dont know the 1996-2000 sedan EX Gauge cluster has a rpm tach and is a direct swap for the DX model and you dont have to run an extra wire to your distributor either.
I purchased a 97 EX sedan 5 spd cluster for the swap.
Step 1. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. Then remove the two screws that are in the top of the trim
Step 2. Carefully pry the bottom of the trim loose on both sides with a flathead
Step 3. Remove the four screws that are holding the top, and bottom corners
(mine was missing the top left screw for some reason)
Step 4. Remove these three plugs from these three corresponding plug in's
Step 5. Reverse the process with the new cluster and reinstall!(Although the new gauge cluster has four plug in's and you only have three plugs it will function properly. I believe this was an ABS plug in. And BTW my SRS light was on before I did the swap)

What the hell happened to the cluster? I guess someone had/has anger management issue and punched the clear lens.

You forgot to mention that you should unmount your negative battery cable before you do anything.. And also to fix that SRS light is very simple, there's a writeup on here with how to do so and it takes about 10 minutes...

Also, the DX had a lower redline than an EX. For the correct redline, you should obtain a cluster from an LX sedan. Definitely do the speedo swap. This is a no-brainer.
Next step is to get that cruise control light working by performing a complete cruise retrofit!

also Ill look into the SRS issue. where it was airbag related I assumed it was a seat belt tensioner
UPDATE: I just reset my SRS light and that was a ridiculously easy task.
