Wheel Offset
i have a 98 Prelude just bought a set of rota gt-3's 16x7 w/ 40mm offset. im haveing some problems of getting someone to mount that tires on be cause they clam that there is no way the wheels will fit with such a low offset. anybody know if there right or if i should keep looking for another place that will?
btw: car lowered on sprint springs, new 205/45/16 tires.

i had 18" enkies on my 99 lude with 215/40s on em, i think they were a 42mm offset. jack the front of your car up and support with jackstands by the lower control arms. remove your stock wheels and put some tape on your wheel studs and on the back of the new rims where the rotor will touch the rim. then put the wheel on and hold it there while your buddy turns the steering wheel. if the rim doesnt stick out past the fender and you can turn the wheel fully then IMO they work! this isnt the exact method that i have seen but i think it would work and also not scratch those new rims in case you have to return them.

what would be the "exact" method? ive been told to mill off my wheels hub 3-5 mm, what else would make it work?

don't mill the hub as you would compromise the wheel; especially the lug nut seats. best bet is to look for another wheel that will fit. if you need, see if the shop will actually put the wheel onto the car for a test fit. you should be able to see how far it sticks out and knowing that tires are usually wider than the rim, whether or not rubbing will be an issue. you car might be like the other larger sized hondas where you would probably need at least a 45 offset on 7s or 7.5s.
go to http://www.tirerack.com , select your car, pick some wheels and then click Closeup to see the width and offset values. it should be a 205/45 tire.
