To be more serious though, you'll need to define "race". If you're talking about an HPDE, that isn't racing, and any "extreme performance summer time" will be fine. If you mean some form of organized racing, then you'll need to follow the rules for the class you participate in.
Really though, if you can't swap tires at the track in under 20 minutes, you aren't trying. Just use 2 sets of wheels, one for street tires and one for track tires, even if you use street tires on the track.

The tire you're looking for is somewhere in the Extreme Performance category. Read our most recent tire test results here !

I have been running auto-x and drag racing on my Dunlop z1starspecs for 15,000 miles and still have more than 50% tread. Just bought some Hoosier r6's to get more competitive in auto-x'ing and save my dd setup from flat spots.
I love the fact that my dunlops perform just as well in wet conditions as they do dry. My comp2's held up great with awesome traction both wet and dry. I just hated the road noise.
Size does play a factor. I know dunlop's are limited in the size they are available in. Other manufactures are the same way.
